He developed a bigger donor list than her in '08 and by the time he was president he had just as many political connections as the Clintons ever had.

By the time he won the '08 general election (which, by the way, was before he gave her the State Department), he didn't need anything from the Clintons anymore. He certainly doesn't need anything from them now.
