That's the Democrats.

The Republicans have, by virtue of their ideological positions and extreme intransigence, isolated themselves to state and local elections that they can win with narrow electorates.

Even the Democratic primary seemed more focused on the good of the nation vs. regional and local issues.

That said, until the Republicans can reconstitute their center, it's going to be hard for them to win on the presidential level because the country doesn't want ideologues in the White House (even Reagan moderated his stances from '76 to '80).

Chances are, Trump will break the Republicans and they'll be forced to adopt a new orthodoxy that reflects something closer to the corporate wing of the Democratic party in the hopes of peeling off business minded Dems who aren't necessarily aligned with Sanders style socialism.

If they can do that in four years, then maybe. But it's doubtful.
