He's as uncompromised as a mainstream politician can be, with a
half-century record that is virtually flawless as it pertains to his
progressive resume.

All you can really attack him on is that "he's a 74 y.o. socialist from Vermont."

Just so happens that a growing and passionate segment of the electorate is
receptive to adapting more elements of democratic socialism into our
society and political/economic structure. Further, many aspects of our
system (which even republicans love) are socialist infusions: medicare,
social security, public school system, public facilities etc...

Younger people see getting a $8-12k savings per tax year as a good thing,
particularly when it is related to putting private health insurance companies
out of business and preventing the absurd speculation and exorbitant costs
associated with for-profit health-care.

All civilized and modern societies recognize health care as a right.
