beforehand, gendry was supposed to be sacrificed outright but davos was able to get in stannis head so mel just did the leech trick but the full sacrifice would allow for stronger magic
gendry was supposed to be sacrificed after the lil bit of blood ended up being so powerful but davos helped him escape before that could happen
