- The fact that crime in the 1960's was alot higher than now. Alot of that time (moreso the early 60's) was presented to me as reruns of black and white sitcoms that made America look super safe.
- The fact that repressive, totalitarian Communist regimes were leftist. I grew up in the 80's - early 2000's, when leftism was presented as being about freedom of expression and pacifism and dispensing with "rules" (Puritanism). When I was growing up, that kind of Iron Curtain repression seemed like what I was told the rightwing wanted, not the left. Edited to add: leftism was presented as this touchy-feely thing, when for much of the 20th century it was the opposite of that.
