77182, Sleepy Hollow: Season 1
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Sep-17-13 12:07 AM
I was watching mostly for giggles, but.., it kind of ruled. Great cast, National Treasure plus witchcraft premise, certainly doesn't hold back. I enjoyed it.

Anyone else check for it?

i'll catch the replay when I get off work.

But, on twitter, folk have been tweeting about how much they love it and are going to tune in and watch it every week.

too bad that bullshit ass world series is coming on and will basically pre-empt it until November (i think they're showing the first five eps, have a break, come back and show the rest of the season, which is only 14 eps).

Once again, FOX fails. smh

there were things i liked about this pilot, but there were also a lot of cliches, silliness, and bad acting, and i actually think the cast is weird in a bad way. i'll still tune in next week and then probably flip over to the blacklist.

that's what i meant. the long explanation: i don't have a DVR so i watch live... since i am already watching tv that night, it makes a nice 2-hour block assuming i keep watching both.

i have the same thoughts about the blacklist. originally i wasn't going to watch because it has the potential to be silly or overly familiar in style/feel, but with several series i watched either ended last season or not starting again until next year, i'm giving some new ones a shot. i do like spader.

Posted by Taye DiggumSmacks, Tue Sep-17-13 12:44 PM
I don't know if it was the way he moved, his cockiness, THE GUNS...But something about him was off. *shrug* And for some reason, I burst out laughing when John Cho entered that room, and the Horseman was hiding behind the desk, then stood up all smooth like, "Yeah, it's me motherfucker."

After the ending, and seeing the season preview, it doesn't seem like he'll even be the most interesting foe.

It has a strong Supernatural (the show) feel to it though, which I'm digging, and Beharie and Mison had a nice chemistry. It's also nice that they remixed the story, adding a bit of beef to everyone's background.

I also like that the belief in supernatural forces was established early. Though Orlando Bloom's character was hesitant at first, and probably still is, I didn't see alot of pushback from too many characters about Crane, or the Horseman's existence.

77209, I agree, but

I think they made a conscious effort not to focus on him being freaked out by everything. There's no way (in real life) someone would adjust as quickly as him, but they figure it's a waste of time with no real payoff to the story. They just expect the viewers to accept it and move on.

I liked it. Enough of a teaser....all is not well in that town. Behari and Mison have great chemistry. Could have done with a bit more of Clancy to explain his research into the killings and the town but its enough that Behari's charactr is taking up the investigation.

Someone mentioned Ichabod not being too freaked out by the future but I think thats mostly because his character was a scholar before becoming a soldier...he's more sleuth than fighter.

I want to see who else in the town is in the know. That doctor at the mental hospital seemed off and will Abby's sister make an appearance since she too was a witness.

http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/fringes-john-noble-joins-sleepy-hollow/

EXCLUSIVE: Fringe star John Noble is reuniting with Fox and the series’ co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci. Noble is set for a major recurring role on Fox’s new drama series Sleepy Hollow, co-created/executive produced by Kurtzman and Orci. He will appear later in the season as Henry Parrish, a kind and reclusive man who possesses supernatural powers that have the potential to help the series’ protagonist, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison). The news comes on the heels of a strong premiere for Sleepy Hollow, which posted Fox’s biggest opening for a fall drama series in 7 years with 10.1 million viewers and a 3.5 in 18-49. Noble, who was a fan favorite for his portrayal of eccentric scientist Walter Bishop on Fringe, will also be reprising his role on The Good Wife next season as Matthew Ashbaugh, Alicia’s (Julianna Magulies) very rich, eccentric client who was murdered. He is repped by Seven Summits Management and Coast to Coast.

something tells me the eps will be a mix of both big bads of the week and overall evils (i.e. the four horsemen of the apocalypse, the battle of the witch covens, etc.)

also, they only got like a 14-16 episode season as far as I know (i don't think they're getting a full 22 eps, though I could be wrong). So who knows what story they plan to tell this year.

77225, FOX is doing the CABLE network style of renewals:
Posted by SankofaII, Thu Oct-03-13 06:56 PM
SLEEPY HOLLOW JUST GOT RENEWED FOR SEASON 2. YES! YES GOD! :)

http://www.deadline.com/2013/10/foxs-sleepy-hollow-renewed-for-second-season/

And the first pickup for a new series this fall goes to — Fox‘s drama Sleepy Hollow. But instead of the standard back 9 order, the adventure series is getting a second-season renewal for at least 13 episodes. Sleepy Hollow is part of Fox’s strategy for shorter, largely uninterrupted, cable-style runs. It was designed to air its 13-episode first season in the fall before another drama series ordered under the same template, The Following, returns in the Monday 9 PM hour — likely in January. Given the success of Sleepy Hollow, it probably was tempting to try and extend its freshman season to the standard 22 episodes, but Fox brass stuck with their original plan. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who co-created Sleepy Hollow with the pilot’s director Len Wiseman and Phillip Iscove but are now under an overall deal at CBS TV Studios, are on board for Season 2. Also coming back is Mark Goffman, who joined after the pilot as an executive producer assisting Kurtzman and Orci with showrunning duties. “The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking — it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast,†said Fox chairman Kevin Reilly.

Sleepy Hollow, a new take on the tale of the Headless Horseman, has been one of the biggest success stories this fall, not only because of its strong premiere numbers but because of its consistency, opening with a 3.4 18-49 rating and, three weeks in, still staying above the 3 ratings threshold in live viewing (3.0). The series, from K/O Paper Products and 20th Century Fox TV, also is a huge DVR draw, earning a 5.0/13 rating among adults 18-49 and 13.6 million viewers for the premiere in Live+3, making it Fox’s most successful fall drama premiere since the debut of 24 in November 2001. With its encore, post-three-day playback on DVR and VOD and streaming, the Sleepy Hollow premiere has drawn an audience of more than 22 million to date. The series is executive produced by Kurtzman, Orci, Wiseman, Goffman, series director Ken Olin and Heather Kadin, with Iscove serving as supervising producer.

This is the equivalent of picking up the back 9 of a 22 episode season. I like the move and years ago I wondered why more broadcast networks weren't developing shows with shorter seasons. Viewers' watching habits have evolved and the preferences seem to trend to shorter seasons for shows.

I understand the financial side of it for studios producing content, but to help promote higher ratings and audience retention, they should consider more short season shows.

true but in the case of Sleepy Hollow, fox is trying a shorter seasons format most most of their new dramas: Sleepy Hollow will run right into The Following, which should bow in January/February;

Almost Human is also 13 episodes.

FOX's two midseason shows: GANG RELATED and WAYWARD PINES are shorter seasons: GANG RELATED is probably no more than 16 eps and WAYWARD PINES is 10-13

I think this is a great idea period. Folk clearly aren't sticking around during the "season lull" of a 22 episode season, i.e. the filler eps, which can be a good 3-6 eps in the middle of a season.

13-18 eps total for a season: a network can play them uninterrupted or with less of a rerun window time during a holiday period than a show with 22 eps...

ABC is trying something like this to, or, breaking up the seasons: SCANDAL, GREY'S AND NASHVILLE are doing 11-12 eps now which should take them to Christmas; they come back in Feburary and show the remaining eps.

less of a lull because last year, the whole show shit until christmas, then don't come back until March or April was bs.

NBC is doing the same thing as well.

I think much can be learned from cable tv *AND* cable network who've been doing this for years (USA is the prime example, their 16 ep seasons are great. show 7-10 in the summer; show the rest in the fall or winter and back those back eps up with shows that are launching in the fall or winter.)

FOX is on the right track, and it's clear that ABC and NBC are following suit.

CBS, save for HOSTAGES only being 15 eps at most, ain't shit because theyre DETERMINED to stay with 22 ep seasons...smh
77231, You and I are >< here on this
Posted by nipsey, Sun Oct-06-13 03:33 PM
I think networks should convert their entire drama lineups to 13-18 episode seasons. They should split the season into three segments: Fall, Winter, Spring.

Each drama timeslot has a show for each season.

For Example Fox could do this for 2013-2104 in the Monday at 9pm timeslot

Sleepy Hollow 13 episodes From September through 2nd week of December.
The Following 13 episodes from January through March
24 13 episodes from April through June

>
>less of a lull because last year, the whole show shit until
>christmas, then don't come back until March or April was bs.
>
>NBC is doing the same thing as well.

"Revolution" is Exhibit A for why that isht is NOT a good idea. Besides the fact it was a horrible show, but that long layoff did it no favors. The show wasn't nearly good enough to get people to come back after the hiatus.

I like that USA does that. My gripe with it though is that it doesn't seem to be a set pattern on when they premiere the shows. I don't watch USA much. Only for "Suits" really, but the premieres of the shows don't seem to be on a schedule.

>FOX is on the right track, and it's clear that ABC and NBC are

>
>CBS, save for HOSTAGES only being 15 eps at most, ain't shit

But that works for CBS. Because we know their dramas are tripe, easily digestible for the masses. Their dramas aren't good enough creatively to justify a shortened season when you can pump out 22 episodes of NCIS:Akron with ease. But for networks that are struggling (I'm looking at you NBC.), if they truly want to try a different approach for dramas, they need to embrace the short seasons.
77232, They aren't

It works for USA because they don't have many dramas
Their shows for the most part work separately within each episode and have less dependency on the season arc
When they do like suits they wrap it up for the most part and almost start the next seasons drama/arc in the last episode

Dramas loses me with they don't wrap it up b

And I can see the networks try to cling to the old formula not wrap things up
And reach for those cliff hangers and to combine with the the USA method if stretching the season out over the year

Forget it they will definitely lose the live audience to weekend watch the entire season marathoners
and I will be long gone
Because I really don't play that shit
See: Lost
Watched the first episode saw where's it was headed
Tuned in years later watched the finale wrap up preview to catch up and the finale
Everyone but me was upsetThat dangle a carrot crap is a no go for me
Seriously wrap it up b

...Nicole Beharie's performance as Abbie....

she is knocking it out of the park and thats the thing thats holding me more than anything else. (she's also easy on the eyes....what a beautiful girl). But her performance for me is great...she grounds it in reality via subtle nuances she adds (some verbal some physical) that i'm pretty sure arent all in the script, so i assume they are elements she as an actor is fleshing out. To me, so far pretty much every thing she does on screen pulls me in closer and yes i'm still talking about just her performance here folks (...but damn she IS a cutie!

the show itself is sold enough, and i thought they did a great job on the Sandman and his effects....well done. i wouldnt mind if the stretched him (and other creatures) out for a few more episodes...build up more tension/mystery...hope they dont feel like they gotta solve something every week.

I agree with all of this.

I like the cast as a whole, but she really stands out here.

I really do watch every week *JUST* to see what she does next.

yup, you're right, the whole cast seems to be getting into the groove of their characters now...Nicole is still a definite standout (she has true 'star' potential) but yes, good performances all around by the cast.

Nicole Beharie gets harder to look at every episode too (in a GOOD way...meaning her face just radiates off of the screen). Heheh, so much so that my own lovely wife is getting tired of me mentioning every week how cute ms Beharie is :)

Abbie, in her own judgment, destroyed their relationship and no way she's going to mend that overnight.

police chief is now an archetype. the asian detective / officer who's not the lead is quickly becoming one (see, also, Grimm). but that's cool.

but i love it.

and orlando jones character is finally starting to grow on me.

now that he 'knows', you can see the weight of trying to stop things, while still dealing with the issues of not wanting to look crazy.

although, its hard for me to believe ppl in s.hollow don't know SOMETHING is up, w/ mofoes getting they wigs chopped off and ppl making jack o lantern heads out of freemasons an shit.

i heart this show.

they slipped on calling that shit hieroglyphs (they were more like masonic pictograms or a game piece from a knights templar board game or some shit), but that's ok.

yes, jones is starting to click in this role for me and as a dramatic actor. he was the most egregious example of weird and bad casting i was referring to earlier, followed by john cho, but he, too, is making sense now. i'm happy to admit i judged prematurely and am glad these guys have the chops they are displaying. this is a good cast, and it's nice to see this level of diversity in primetime.
77248, lol. that's exactly what i was thinking when i saw you describe
Posted by poetx, Tue Nov-19-13 11:27 AM
the casting as 'weird'. like, wtf is orlando jones doing here. its moreso the permanent eyeliner that effs w/ me. and waiting for him to do some broad comedy, but he's growing on me as a dramatic actor, now.

those are pretty big hurdles to overcome for me to not be conscious of him in the role.

i've liked cho in every role he's played in, so that was never a stretch. playing the undead neck-broke guy, though... there's not really a template for that, so he's making it up as he goes along. i really like the remorseful / atoning duality they've brought to his character. guess they are being biblical w/ regard to demons not being omnipresent, as he has 'downtime' in which he can not be evil.

that's a pretty interesting angle. i damn sure wouldn't be going out for coffee w/ that ni&&a, though, as he got that dead man strength.

yes granted the black chief has become a archetype
but his approach is non stereotypical
the anti ice cube riff in 21 jump st

i like watching him deal with still working on this
getting confronted dead on with it
and finally fighting for his life

also love Cho as 'villian' henchman
its also a fine line of stereotypical asian as other/sidekick
but his role is pretty relevant and meaty i'm willing to over look

http://www.deadline.com/2013/12/fox-expands-sleepy-hollow-finale-shifts-following-official-premiere/

Fans of Ichabod Crane will get a double dose of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow on January 20. The network said today that the freshman supernatural drama will expand to two hours on the date starting at 8 PM. That means the official Season 2 premiere of The Following will shift out of its previously set slot to 9 PM January 27. The hit Kevin Bacon series will still preview January 19 in the prized slot following the NFC Championship Game as Fox originally designed. The original schedule had Sleepy Hollow moved out of its regular 9 PM slot to an 8 PM finale for The Following to take over the time period. Sleepy Hollow’s last original of the year is December 10 at it was scheduled to come back with originals on January 6. Now return on January 13 to allow for the double-up on January 20.

John Noble & Lyndie Greenwood Promoted To Regular On Fox’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’

Tags: Fox, John Noble, Lyndie Greenwood, Sleepy Hollow

EXCLUSIVE: Fringe‘s John Noble is back on series regular duty at Fox. After a three-episode arc on the freshman season of Sleepy Hollow, Noble is joining the cast of the breakout drama as a regular next season. Also promoted heading into Season 2 is Lyndie Greenwood after appearing in 10 of the first season’s 13 episodes. (SPOILER ALERT WARNING!) Noble’s promotion also is not a surprise given the big reveal in the recent season finale that his character Henry is actually Jeremy — Ichabod and Katrina’s son as well as the second horseman. Nikita alumna Greenwood, repped by Artist International, plays Jenny Mills, the estranged sister of Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). Noble is with Seven Summits Management and Coast to Coast.
