Because really Pete hasn't even attempted to play that card since Season 1 (or was it 2?)
Don paid up because Pete is an asset to the company, and maybe a little bit out of guilt because he screwed up the NASA account.
I don't think the Dick Whitman stuff played much of a factor. Don was in straight up survival mode and could have given a shit less what his name was at that point.
