Yeah, they drop important details very subtly. They just had that one line that referenced that that the woman Jimmy met with backstage was his Mom. It was a very good scene and I think most people up to that point just assumed he had a side-piece. That reveal was similar to the introduction of Al Capone in the first episode, in my opinion.

Also, earlier in the episode, Jimmy was telling Nucky that they had killed 6 people during the robbery and Nucky then 'corrects' him and says that there were only 5 people killed. That was definitely a clue that there would be more to that incident, but yeah, very subtle.
