So what's happening...is "James River" going to be released this year?
I was only able to find this >>>

"According to Lindsay Guion, D’Angelo’s manager, no album will be released this summer. No collaborators have been confirmed. The artist is living in Richmond. He’s recording there and in New York City, and he will deliver the tracks to his record company by September. Guion says they have just signed a contract for a U.S. tour that will begin around the holidays. So, the bottom line seems to be that nobody’s going to hear anything from D’Angelo at least well into the fall. That includes NEWSWEEK. After repeated requests for an interview, D’Angelo’s rep finally offered to pass on a list of questions by e-mail with assurances that D’Angelo would actually provide the answers. After a day, however, his management backtracked to say the singer was unavailable until the album was finished.

I think most of us have grown tired of worrying about when his album is coming out. If it does I will buy it. If it doesn't I can't buy it. Its on D'angelo to actually come forth with news of a new album in the works. If he does, great, if he doesn't it won't be any different from he's been doing for the last ten years, NOTHING!!!

I don't think he should shit something out for our sake - but you're right, it won't be any different. Until then, we do have something to look forward to: http://www.billboard.com/news/bilal-to-release-electro-jazz-rock-album-1004020271.story#/news/bilal-to-release-electro-jazz-rock-album-1004020271.story

I'm waiting but it's not an anticipation anymore. Everyday life is hard enough and we have no idea what he's dealing with outside of being an artist.

I carry this long winded speech everywhere.. Whenever he gets ready along with Lauryn I'll be there to support. It's just a shame neither know how much they REALLY are LOVED and RESPECTED.

It has been a very loooong time since Voodoo. I think D' is just not ready for his comeback at least in this year. I don't wanna worry about the album anymore. 2010 is the year (i hope).

I found some interesting things to read about the forthcoming album of D'Angelo

1. Russell Elevado (recording engineer & record producer) wrote on the 2nd April 2007:

"hello,

unfortunately, i can't go into too much detail about the new album. i can however, give you a little background:

we have been working on it (on and off) since 2002. and i don't have any idea when the exact release date is but hopefully this year, the latest 2008. but it has been in progress (slow as that may be). we were in the studio last november doing some o/d's and rough mixes on about 5 new songs that we could play for the label. but besides that, D has not worked on the album for about 2 years or so. we do have plans to head in the studio in may to finish mixes on some live material from the voodoo tour and that's all i can say about the live stuff for now...sorry

i turned him onto hendrix just before we started voodoo (hence the album title) and he just went crazy. it was like a revelation for him. he realized (for the first time) that a lot of his heroes were greatly influenced by hendrix, including prince, sly, george clinton...everyone! and i got him hooked on the beatles as well. so it's opened up a few doors for him.
it will be a different album than voodoo, that much is definite. to me it's leaning more in a rock direction. like funkadelic meets the beatles or something. he hasn't given up his soul roots by any means, but he is growing and exploring a new genre. he's writing quite a bit of music on guitar rather than the keyboard this time as well.

it will have a different sonic quality as well. we'll have to see how it will turn out as the vision has not revealed itself fully yet. his songs are varied and he's gone through much experimentation. my contributions wil be (more than ever) in the old school production techniques and style. but this time it will come from a slightly more rock prespective...slightly. and heavier."

2. Remember when ?love wrote this:

"Here's the deal: 11 songs are done. Most need lyrics. Most are in the 7-9 minute range. All are epic as ****. Most need a haircut. Shit I love. But shit I know the marketplace ain't even ready for. If "Untitled" video is what got him over on the idiot side of things, he is gonna have to get his physical game back and come with some strong ass imagining to make up for the fact that there will be no radio friendly single--newbies I'm warning you now, if you want to "understand" this record--you must purchase and study the following:

Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, America Eats Its Young, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, Let's Take it to the Stage, Tales of Kidd Funkadelic
Sly & The Family Stone's There's a Riot Going On
Miles Davis' On the Corner
Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information
Brian Wilson's Smile
the Beatles' Abbey Road, Revolver, White Album
Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, Band of Gypsys
the Sex Pistol's Nevermind the Bullocks Here's the Sex Pistols, Prince's Dirty Mind
Tony Williams' Ego and Emergency!

Study and absorb and research this shit now. Memorize it. Understand why the albums I mentioned were important in their historical context. Lower your expectations. This will throw you for a loop."

Well, have fun listening to those albums. :)

With only two albums, D'Angelo made himself on of the most respected new comers in music. Still, it should be obvious that the boy is troubled and dealer with issues that a deeper than many of us know. Although I hate to be dramatic, my personal belief is that James River is NEVER going to happen.

I will eagerly wait for D.

When its ready..its ready.

Hes an artist and you can not rush your art...be it 1 year or 20.

Look at Sade.....she waited HELLA years to release her last album and IMO it was well worth the wait....I am now waiting for the follow-up to that as well.

Take your time D!! No matter how much folk complain about the wait THEY WILL BUY IT simply because your a GREAT artist!!!

He was being true to himself & to his music without all the over popular matters fame & fortune can offer you.

When D'Angelo sat behind an organ, moderately blazin', it was the equivalent of him cooking a Jamaican dish-making serious exqusiteness to perfection.

That's the D'Angelo we truly expect to come back full circle.

My friends and I are so sick of waiting on D's new material. Such awe-inspiring talent and then nothing for so long due to psychological instability. We're trying to find any Voodoo Tour recordings out there...of course I have the one from the Cirkus in Stockholm and the video from Montreux. Does anyone have any other Voodoo Tour show audios? I know some were posted here way back, but all those links are long dead. Anyone able to repost those? It'd help everyone here out while we wait endlessly for James River.

D'Angelo Live In London (1995)

I also have Live At Universal Ampitheater In L.A. & Live Rehearsal At The Essence Festival but quality isn't the best.

Live in Stockholm is the best so far i think, the quality is good & the performance is just amazing.

well thats jolly good for Q-tip. But D's fans have waited 10 years for something new so whats the point of him saying its crazy if he's not going to discuss it? Its pass the point of being patient for new music and now we're feeling empathy for him. He still hasn't announced any plans or details for his "upcoming" project so we should'nt worry about what is being said until he comes forward and confrms it. This third album has been in limbo since 2004, its our version of Detox, and it has to be phenomenal.

So, 25th January 2000 was the release date of Voodoo and the release Date for 'James River' could be 25th January 2010. But where is the single? Damn!

>So, 25th January 2000 was the release date of Voodoo and the
>release Date for 'James River' could be 25th January 2010. But
>where is the single? Damn!

Around November 1999 we starting hearing tracks off of Voodoo such as:

Chicken Grease (live performance on Chris Rock's HBO show)
Left and Right feat. Meth and Red (music video and heavy radio rotation)
Devil's Pie (Belly soundtrack, premiered around August)

Around December we got:

Untitled (video and heavy radio rotation)

Around January 2000 we got:

Send It On (video and heavy radio rotation)
One Mo' Gin (limited radio rotation)
Africa (limited radio rotation)

ten years have passed and by now we still haven't heard any new tracks off of the third LP (rumored to be titled "James River" but who knows?), so a January 26th 2010 release date is NOT happening.

so he should go Aretha on us and do an Amazing Grace-type project.

Straight Gospel music, recorded live in a Church.

Maybe that would get he monkey off his back.

so don't speculate on this you do not know.

he could be healthy as a bear, and going to church 5 times a week...
but you/we do not know.

that would be a terrible idea regardless.

I don't know about his personal situation, but that album would be HOT!

D was/is great live and something like this would be a layup for him. It would be embraced by his fan base, most of who have given up on him.

Have you ever listened to Aretha's Amazing Grace? It was a great record that had a great story behind it: "Church prodigy who makes R&B music, comes back to her roots."

Does that sound familiar to you at all?

Guion's more official Myspace mentions the following:

"Signed to the both RCA and J Records, D’Angelo’s album is slated for release summer 2010. "

So I guess that even the somewhat late release of Early 2010 is beyond our reach. >___> I wish we could at least get a single or something.
