It was lazy. There was clearly no direction on the album, just "if it ain't broke don't fix it". No passion, no feeling. Common even admitted that someone else told him "your album's done". That's unheard of in his career. We listen to Common because he's always put together great, cohesive albums and worked so hard on the final product, a perfectionist...to know that he had very little to do with that album was disappointing.
There were some songs that were OK and stick out, but it was redundant.
