185437, Mos Def & The Watermelon Syndicate

I'm trying to figure out if I want to drive to Newport for the Newport Jazz Fest to see Mos headline.

Anyone know if the Watermelon Syndicate is his big band? Anyone know who's in the band? I know he said he was working on a clothing line called Watermelo Syndicate, but I can't imagine him actually performing with clothes.

Any details would help. I'm going Sunday but I don't like driving back and forth from Boston two straight days....
185438, thats his 22 piece big band

Look up his shows from Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center to see what it is. I was at both those last year and it was incredible.

definitely go, i already have my tix.

Who am I kidding...I'm going.

I can't believe I just got egged on to go by a bunch of strangers...that's pretty cool.

Plus, Vijay Iyer is there and he's the other half of the reason for going...not to mention branford and josh redman and esperanza, but I've seen all them a bunch of times before...

Did he stick with that name for the band? I saw him in Ann Arbor for the Dilla tribute last year, and said he would name the band that, but seemed like a joke.

I believe that band has Robert Glasper (piano) and Chris "Daddy" Dave(?)(drums).
