as am i...but perhaps you can justify buying another copy (only $9.99) on itunes as another way of supporting the band. i know, they still got more money than you, but we've read the posts with rich and brain.

i bought it on release at the store just like the rest of you, but i felt no regrets buying the album on itunes. as much as it sucks to give into the "digital revolution" as opposed to having the physical record or disc in your hands, the solution might just be to buy from both outlets. (so inbox requests, i'm not saying FOH or anything, but think about it?)

trust me, i'd rather use my radio credentials to get the album free from def jam. but hey, the roots are what brought me here in the first place.

firstly, the abundance of people with a similar attitude ('i don't mind copping again from itunes if it supports the band') is admirable

secondly, it's this dedication that makes the situation kinda not right. like i said in the other post, it can easily come across as a calculated move to use the 'digital revolution' to exploit the fanbase (rather than entrusting them as in the radiohead model)

like i said, i'm sure this is not what they're trying to do. von's blog said def jam didn't want to print the liner notes cos it would've cost extra money. ?uest was talking about politics being involved. i'm guessing that they wanted to release the liner notes (?uest said he was trying to figure out a way to get it to us right?) but def jam wanted to make it an itunes exclusive. if anyone's reading this, this is not a good move, because you risk alienating the very people who support you

- the whole point about copping the physical version (at greater price and effort) is that it's supposed to have extra, not less than the digital release

- i don't think anyone minds supporting; i think the objection is to being tricked into a situation where you have to cop twice to get what should have been in the physical release. if you cop again, you're saying "it's ok to do this"

I object to being short-changed because I actually went to the record store and bought my CD on release day. No way am I paying twice for any album - the liners should have been included with the physical album, godammnit!

Next Roots album, I'm tempted to cop the leak and wait to see how I get the best deal before buying, f*ck being a sucker again.

I agree that from what has been said it is not their fault. I don't think dude above is saying it is their fault. I think he is placing the blame on the label.

Judging by what's been said, it looks like Def Jam (not ?uestlove) dropped the ball on this one, but that still doesn't change the fact that it's the fans who are left to either deal with not having the liners or fork out again for the privilege.

I think there are a few fans (myself included) who will wait a week or two before buying the next album so they don't miss out again, and that's a real shame.

It would be irresponsible for a band who speaks about social and political issues to do something like that given the country's economy being total shit and not looking like it's getting any better anytime soon.

RD is fast becoming one of my favorites...it knocked illadelph down to number three and now sitting right below Things Fall Apart as best album. Wore this damn thing out! Glad I bought three copies.
