9216, IDIOTS GUIDE TO PRODUCTION/WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Posted by 3rd_Eye, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
if i wanted software that was all-inclusive, meaning i could make, sample, mix and edit my own music, which would you choose? i am not a music guru, i just want to start making my own music/mixes. i'd like to get the best bang for my dollar. i should note that i am not that technically savvy and i have very little familiarity with any music recording software. knowing all this, what software would you suggest i purchase and why? thanks in advance for your help fam.

I'd go with cubase, any version U can find.. I find it real easy to use, good for midi and not bad for audio..

Yeah, I'd say fruityloops all the way! Unless you could afford an mpc of course.

9230, how easy is an mpc to master? Posted by 3rd_Eye, Fri Jun-23-06 12:56 PM
isn't that a standalone piece of hardware? i've dabbled with an mpc2000 i believe like 2 years ago, it was pretty simple. how complex would it be to hook an mpc up to a computer and would i still need a program like reason or fl to make quality music?

9228, i think reason is powerful and easy. Posted by danthrax, Fri Jun-23-06 12:15 PM
And comes with everything you need to make music. A lot of other software, you need heaps of plugins to really take full advantage.

9231, so reason really is a standalone product Posted by 3rd_Eye, Fri Jun-23-06 12:58 PM
do you know any name producers that use reason exclusively?

but if you're making sample based hiphop, you'll have more than enough in there to pull it off.
"exclusively"? probably not. when you get to that level, you have such a wide variety of gear and tools that you don't find yourself sitting exclusively with one. but for someone getting started, reason offers the most bang for buck, and is a great place to learn. it'll take a long time to feel limited, and once you do, you can move up to something more serious like cubase or what have you.
