Oh No - the beat is hot. I'm not feelin the emcee but the flow sounds aight over the beat.

Welcome 2 Duram - this is fire. I never heard the original beat but I'm pretty sure that I'd like yours better.

New $$$ - this is nice too but I think you should drop out some of the drums at a few spots and it would make the beat more interesting.

If I had any advice, it would be use things like compression and EQ to make your drums sound a little less fruity loop'ish.

Good stuff tho.

Posted by ToeJam, Thu Apr-12-07 03:50 PM
Ain't gonna see me - not feeling. Very formulaic, flat, and that chipmunk sound that hasn't been hot for a hot minute. And too long to have nothing new or more layers happen.

I'm only - Heard this but with better drum sounds.

I think you haven't found you sond yet...

come on man, I can take constructive criticism with the best of them, but I just listened to your beats and you have no room to give me such a harsh critique with them boring ass beats on your page.
I can tell that you've probably been producing for a long time and that you know what you're doing technically, but your sound just doesn't fit in with today. Now, I'm assuming that you don't want to fit in with today; you're probably too much of a purist to want to be on the radio or god-forbid a mixtape. Me on the other hand, I'm still young and I'm making music for people my age, not yours. So basically, we are producing two different genres of music. With that said, I'm pretty sure that 9 outta 10 rappers today would choose my beats over yours...

>

Yeah, 5-7 years ago hell yeah you got that hot sound. Right now you're just copying the copiers. Faxing the facsimilies. Aping the gorillas. And this sound is NOT on the radio anymore (not that I give a fuck).

I said the same thing others did, just a touch more raw.

I sell beats. Do you?

If you were truly making music for the young radio crowd (mainstream) you wouldn't be sampling at all. You'd use all keyboard.

Keep building, hopefully you'll get some decent equipment and a better ear for sound.

Check out some of my band's tracks at www.myspace.com/the1philosophy.

Put much effort into mixing and mastering. May not be your style of hip-hop but listen technically.

I hope you try to get an original sound. Or are you on this message board to learn how close you can get to reproducing instead of producing.

I'll check for ya next time.

Peace.

haha.. you sound bitter as hell man. and yes, I have sold many beats and I have credits on major label albums. who have u sold beats to, some 3rd rate def jux wannabes? how much did you sell them for $100? haha you have no idea who I am or who I work with. I don't normally argue with people on the internet, (I've been a member here at Okayplayer since 1999 and I have less than 1000 posts) but you came in this post with a holier than thou attitude, so I had to put you in your place. also, you seem to be the one taking this way too personally. I told you that I think you know what you're doing technichally, but your sound isn't hitting. And you say that my sound is played? I guess you should tell that to the 4 major label artists and their labels that I'm currently working with. I try to stay humble and not put my shit out there like that here on Okayplayer, but since you wanted to play that game, I played you. I'm ending this right now. It's done..

cinco de marzo - This never really seems to find a pocket. The changes don't relate. Maybe work on finding one solid groove, then other samples that work over that and do more layering. The third part of the song starts that a little, but needed, bass. Okay, not it's another new part. This is too much for my ears...

miss lead - this beat might have potential but as is it's boring.

dig the LB remix, but the vocals do not exactly match the tempo of the beat...but close. the kanye remix is much better executed.
25433, RE: Check out the beat
Posted by ToeJam, Thu Apr-12-07 04:19 PM
LB - The start of that loop needs to be faded/softened, it loops wierd. I like this cats flow. Don't really want to listen to a guy talk about nobody feeling. The hook is kinda weak, doesn't fit their sentiment, and her voice doen't sound very strong. The second verse has poor rhythm and breath controll. This beat would sound a whole lot better if it were recorded better.

Classic - The a capella gets so fucking off beat I can't listen to this. Why'd you post this? Do it over, please.

No more...
25448, lol, I take it you dont listen to Little Brother then...
Posted by Blinky_Blinx, Thu Apr-12-07 06:35 PM
...but 4real the beats on them joints are cool, the classic beat i reckon is better, but the acapellas are def off on both of those. Try slowing down/speeding up the beats untill they match, or if they dont sound good when you do that use a different beat.
25708, RE: Check out the beat
Posted by Blacsican, Tue Apr-17-07 10:04 PM
I liked all those beats. I'd rather hear a new emcee on 'em than hear 'em used as remix beats but that's a personal preference.

Stuntin - this is fire. I like it better than the original beat.

I Heard - this is kool. the chops on the hook part could be a little cleaner though but it still works.

Walkin - this is pretty hot. the bass could use some EQ on the low end at around 40hz down, it'll get rid of that rumble that sounds a little off.

Pimpin - the bass isnt really working here. it's too dirty. it sounds like you filtered it from the sample, u should replay it and it'll sound cleaner.

"Pimpin'" got re-worked and itll be out on somebody's full length this summer, and the other one is just taking up hard disk space for the moment.

guidlines for making a corny beat----
*buy record that has the word "motown" on it somewhere
*record a track off the record
*begin your song with 20 sec of the raw sample
*bring in your newly constructed song of a simple drum pattern, and a simple 4-4 sample flip
*dont add bass cus thats too difficult
25303, im soo sick of that damn 10 second preview shit
Posted by bigboy, Tue Apr-10-07 01:10 AM
like you gotta show everybody what sample you chopped

good stuff though
25437, You're close to corny yourself
Posted by ToeJam, Thu Apr-12-07 04:24 PM
*shock title*

But you are toeing that line of chipmunk samples.

You have a good ear for melody, not as strong for rhythm here. The trimming of the samples needs more practice.

I think you're trying too hard to be creative and loosing the groove.

Mass Danger - This is hot. The change on the hook works well. It's energetic yet has space for an emcee.

Show You - the scratching on both tracks is hot. Drum sounds are crispy!

It's been a while - I like this, that vocal is prevalent bu it works as an instrumental. But it comes out of that breakdown awkwardly.

You've got your sound. These are have a somewhat similar feel but they work. Keep keeping on.

Your beat's got a nice dirty feel. The clap hits on 2, 3, and 4 give it an interesting tension between forward momentum and staying rooted in one place, and that, combined with the piano sustained G on the downbeats of every other bar, give the whole thing a kind of epic quality.

My biggest problems with it: too many octaves for my tastes, and melodically, the whole thing pretty much just stays in the three notes of the G minor chord. As a result, while it does create some dope effects with the different patterns intersecting and crossing each other, the piece doesn't generate much melodic tension, and so can't offer any satisfying release or resolution.

At the same time, as I mentioned, it's nice when the synth patterns start blending and separating (particularly a little after 1:00), and it's an effect that's only created because they're all moving back and forth over the same three tones in different registers. Maybe you could have the sustained piano note change from G to Ab for a couple bars at the end of an 8-bar phrase or something like that, just to give it the sense that's it going places and then be able to create the satisfaction of having it return to the root (G). Just an idea, and I'm not at all sure it would work, but it made be worth trying.

One last comment - I really like the piano sound on the sustained G (the 'bass'), and I don't think that sound should be changed, but I feel like the piano could use some distortion or something with the notes played with the right hand.

peace

I like the drums investigation and can see why you called it that, the name fits. Wasn't feeling Aflame to much though Teresa has a nice voice.
