but those 'facts' are so lopsided
yes, unlike most people he celebrates b-movies and other forgotten cinema
- he's also seen virtually every* other movie (of significant budget) made, from film noir, to historical epic, to Shakespeare plays, to westerns, to romantic comedies (not to mention consumption of other types of culture, as if that doesn't count)

yes, unlike most his films (to varying degrees) are highly aware of cinematic history
- that does not mean his films are not attempts to make something new
