I also hold a special place in my heart for the ending to A.I., a film I feel would have been TERRIFIC were it not for the ending. Had they ended with the robot frozen underwater staring at the blue fairy, it would have been the type of ballsy unsettling ending that Spielberg hadn't given us since Raiders of the Lost Ark. Instead he had to make it happy, when the whole movie indicated otherwise. FUCK THAT.

Same with Monority Report. He started that possible great movie but happy ending shit ruining it with AI imo.

when it comes to concept of the movie i see your point, but i gotta say that the whole scene on the roof was great to me and that sigur ros song was brilliant.

no way you can defend this ending. this was when cameron crowe started to lose me. in retrospect the only reason I like Almost Famous was cos I saw it when I was a fourteen year old who loved to romanticize an era of rock I was never even around for.

that's how the original movie ends as well.

I was pissed at the end!!! PISSED!!! When the screen went black, I said there better not be credits rolling and BLAM! Credits... what a waste of time....

I liked that movie a lot, my ONLY beef was him giving Denzel the diamond, like 'why did you even have to rub it in his face that he almost caught you'? just get the goods and bounce....

Denzel realized early on that it wasn't about a robbery "This ain't no robbery!" and in the end figured out that the whole thing was a scheme to bring light to a bigger crime. Clive Owen was more vigilante than mere criminal and even did Denzel a solid by giving him one of the diamonds to give to his girl (I believe they had a discussion about it earlier in the film).

I saw it more as a "You deserve this" than a "Fuck you I outsmarted you"

Plus there's talks of a sequel

rather than stick it in his pocket as he slipped past him.


AND I thought that the fact that dude was dealing in all that stolen shit from the holocaust was just a part of the reason that he didn't want it to get noisy. But i gues it DID get noisy anyway,lol...




either way, i liked the movie, and i was fine with the ending.

it wouldn't have been pimperish otherwise. The whole notion of the film was that he had planned the perfect crime & that included evading capture even after several direct confrontations with the pursuer.

Plus, he bragged earlier in the film, he was just going to walk right out the door.

as everyone else up said, I don't think he was giving him the diamond just to rub it in his face. but I think that was a little part of it, but not the main part. And not so much to rub it in his face, more like to big-up his own skill.
