i'm saying that if steinfeld had been nominated in the proper category for the oscars and beaten out portman and williams the way she did here, it would have been a travesty.

this isn't the kid's choice awards. we're not grading her on a curve against other actresses her age. true, there are very few 14 year olds who could have did what she did in true grit (ironically, a 14-year-old portman would be one of them), but there's nothing steinfeld did that couldn't have been done by many actresses in hollywood, if we're taking age out of the equation. portman and williams on the other hand have been killing it for years and those were unique, career defining performances that no one else could have done as well, at any age.
