>well, this coulda been something mammoth if it was made as a >one 3 hour flick. but then again, it might not have gotten >past the mpaa review board.
Yeah & besides the NC-17 threat, after the House of Blue Leaves the audience is pretty worn out. It ends on a nice climax. >lucy would be right back in my lyrics after this flick.
What about Julie Dreyfus as Sofie? Was it just me or did she not have a poor womans Monica Bellucci thing goin on?
>bang bang is amazing as a title sequence song.
Yes indeed. That song & that opening scene grabbed me from the start.
>>>some things i liked: >>>the opening reveal of bill's handkerchief >> >>What's the deal w/ the hanky? > >what do you mean? i just thought it was a clever way to get >across a bit of the plot without dialogue, like the opening >five minutes of "rear window." utilizing props to get >across the story. Ok nevermind. I see what you're sayin now. But doesnt he start by saying, "Do you find me sadistic?" & "I bet I could fry an egg on your head about now, if I wanted to."
>>>the anime sequence is awesome >> >>It was ok. A little over the top. > >well, i always thought that was the point. a minute coulda >been trimmed off i guess to strengthen it's inclusion. Yeah I had heard about it before I saw it. I also wasnt expecting it 2 be so long. But it was effective.
>>>daryl hannah's character >> >>Didnt mind her. She's not one of my favorite actress but I >>think she did a good job w/ the small role she had in Vol 1. > >supposedly it seems she will have a bigger role in volume >two. and then maybe this will justify, or at least >overcome, her minimal performance and part in volume one. >another reason to combine the movies.
Yeah I was also surprised not 2 see Micheal Madsen as Bud. Cant wait 2 see what he does in Vol 2. And was it just me or did it Bill's voice sound more like a Mickey Rourke than it did David Carradine's?
>what's with the eye patch?
Another throw-in device payin homage 2 an earlier flick. Cant recall which one but it's mentioned somewhere in this post:)
>sometimes it seems like since "jackie brown," quentin writes >dialogue for black characters as if they are stuck in a 70s >exploitation movie.
I guess I hear ya on that. I was just pissed that she was the 1st one 2 go. But then again if QT is payin homage 2 the old school horror films as well then us black folk are always the 1st 2 die.
>>>the pussy wagon (buck) >>Didnt see a problem w/ it. Buck was a slimeball afterall. > >sure, but to me it seems like the pussy wagon and fucking a >comatose girl where just thrown in there to add style and >color but no substance. like, what's the point?
I thought the point was two-fold. 1.) 4 comedic purposes obviously. & 2.) 2 increase the revenge factor motive. When Buck is gettin achilles tendon sliced & head bashed in the door I felt no remorse 4 him but also found it funny.
>>>the way the crazy 88s were introduced (seemed like an excuse >>>to say "i penetrated you") >> >>Please explain. > >they go around at some club and introduce the members of >o-ren ishi's gang. there is a "flashback" to o-ren cutting >the head off someone who has a problem with her ethnicity.
That & the dialouge that follows from O-ren is my favorite scene in the movie. As soon as dude started mouthin off I knew it was only a matter of time.
>then we see a flashback of go-go (i believe) cutting a dude >and saying "well, it seems i penetrated you." and then i >don't believe the other characters are really treated in the >same manner. kinda seemed like another bit of adding >"color" and blood and catchy line to a place where it seemed >unnecessary. plus, they all got killed within the next >fifteen so no character motivation could be really claimed.
I think the only reason 4 that scene (other than an excuse 2 use the previous line you mentioned) was 2 show how ruthless Go Go was. And 2 spill more blood than necessary of course:)
