52892, So something's been bugging me about The Fresh Prince intro

In the theme song, why did Will Smith spend so much time describing the cab? I mean it didn't really help to set-up the show, and it had zero relevance to the overall FP continuity. Yet he goes on about the cab for an entire verse.

In the Green Acres song they don't tell us how the Douglas's got out to the countryside. In the Beverly Hillbillies we are told that a truck is involved, but they don't waste time telling us what Jed's vanity plate read.

Yet in the opening credits of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the majority of the song is in fact about a cab ride. I used to think of this as a good TV theme song, but I'm considering re-evaluating my Top 10 list now.

Was the cab/cabbie originally intended to be a recurring character, but then execs pulled the idea after the intro was already shot?
