Now, you might say "from seasont two to season four x was funnier" and perhaps you'd be right.

AD has the benefit of a short run. It ended before it got watered down.

Take The Simpsons. Unquestionably, in it's prime, one of the best, funniest shows all of alltime.

But, since it's gone down hill, it's been so mediocre that you can't just look at the good years without also taking into account the bad.

It's like when you want to make a case for Ice Cube being the GOAT, you cannot simply say "forgot those last three albums", because,they're there, and they play a part in it.

That's all I can think of right now (and I'm just getting into AD), and most of those had the benifits of being a cartoon, which I think automatically makes me laugh more cause of all the animation jokes you can do.

Sorry....Seinfeld is the best show of all time, but that doesnt mean it is the funniest...The Simpsons was only *really* funny for about 4 seasons and still in my opinion was not as funny...Fox should have murdered the Simpsons 5 years ago...I havent even chuckled at an episode inthe last 5 years..King of the Hill?!? How embarassing to put that on the list...That show is straight up garbation..Not funny at all..And all of the sketch comedy shows had plenty of awkwardly horrifically unfunny sketches and moments...

AD is the funniest show ever written
It was Too smart for Fox's audience, and clearly too Smart and over the head of RJ...surprise surprise....

I loved AD, but it was never in KOTH's league.

How did this get 90 posts? Seriously, AD was an excellent show that had NO CHANCE of surviving. Not because it's bad, not because it's too smart for dumbed down red states, not because Fox never wanted it there.

BECAUSE PEOPLE AREN'T USED TO HAVING TO WATCH EVERY EPISODE OF A FUGGIN COMEDY.

The fact is if you were a new viewer to the show, unless you take the time to watch all of season one and two on DVD, you had no idea what was going on if you tuned in to season three. This was a show you COULDN'T afford to miss a couple times here or there, because if you miss it one week, you're left wondering why there's all this talk about Iraq houses and the Blue Man Group the next episode.

This type of show is better suited to cable and HBO (see Curb Your Enthusiasm) because they rerun shit like 6 times a week if you miss the initial airing. And if you miss a whole season, they sometimes rerun those, too.

AD was never going to pick up new viewers no matter how much advertisement and publicity and awards it got, because people couldn't just pick it up in the middle of season one or the beginning of season two. I know people (yes, they voted for Kerry) who tried and just couldn't get into something that seemed like it had already started without them. It's nice to reward the people who were with you from the start, but it's not how you build a successful network comedy in 2006.

...then you are never allowed to talk about comedy. Ever.

King of the Hill is FAR smarter than redneck humor. FAR FAR FAR smarter.

it lasted 3 seasons, received tremendous critical support and had a faithful viewership even if that didnt compare to the ratings a show like American Idol might have received.

the first time around..Fox killed it, just like AD..It asnt advertised, it was constantly moved from night to night without telling people, it disappeared for weeks at a time, then they would throw 2 episodes at you and it would disappear again..THey did it with FG and they did it with AD...The show is brilliant, was brilliantly written, performed incredibly well, receieved CRITICAL ACCLAIM from people that actually know what they are talking about, and was killed
And, just like family guy, it will be back...

there are many people on PTP who would argue that Family Guy struggled mightily because the entire show was based on pop culture references and otherwise wasn't very funny.

I'm not one of them, but those people do exist.

AD won't be back because it sucks, much unlike Family Guy. thanks for trying however.

When in actuality, it is plain to see that it died the first time around because Fox wanted it gone...Just like with AD

i downloaded the two episodes of Seinfeld voted 'best' (the soup nazi and the no-masturbation contest) and they were shit. i could tell by the way the audience were laughing, it was like 'this is the sort of situation americans find really funny!' it wasn't much to do with the execution. it seems quite strange that people in this thread are insisting Arrested Development is one of the 'top five comedies of all time' since a new show gets hyped up every year.... i'll watch it if it comes on but i wont be surprised if it's mince
