I like the shot that slowy reveals the big Paul Bunyan statue...ax in hand.

The score that plays throughout that shot & the rest of the movie is great as well.

...I will say that I've always believed that it's the worst Coen Brothers flick pre-Intolerable Cruelty. Never understood why it's considered the best of their catalogue.

Blood Simple? The Hudsucker Proxy? Raising Arizona? Shit, even Barton Fink. It's not only not bad, it's also very, very good.

but I can never do it.

Even when I saw it in the theater, I thought to myself, "I should be loving this, but why is it leaving me feeling flat?"

Ah well, I don't begrudge anyone who loves it, I just disagree. And I certainly don't hate the movie.

And for the record, Blood Simple and Raising Arizona are two of the Coen Brothers best. Just saying.

but now I do love it.

Blood Simple I've only seen once so far, I loved that one scene near the end with the holes in the wall, but other than that it didn't do much for me. I think for me it would be a toss-up between that and The Man Who Wasn't There, for worst one before their current drop-off. I didn't like Barton Fink that much either, though I'm making a point to watch it again because it did feel like there was more there that I wasn't quite getting the first time.

So I can understand, it's just a shame, 'cause there's so much to like about it, imo.

I don't know about bad, but it's wildly overrated.

I will never understand why it received so much recognition and is considered the Coen Bros' masterpiece while Miller's Crossing (their true masterpiece IMO) is so slept on/underappreciated.
