41112, i fucking hate fargo.
Posted by south_jerz, Thu Feb-16-06 09:01 PM
i hate all the characters
i hate their motherfucking accents
i hate the plot
i hate the symbolism
i hate the film.

i fucking hate it.
41113, hate is the new love

41117, symbolism?

41118, exactly
Posted by colonelk, Fri Feb-17-06 12:00 AM
What?
41119, her husbands name is norm
Posted by south_jerz, Fri Feb-17-06 12:12 AM
her pivotal moment in the bar with the asian man
a ridiculously mundane represenation of the midwest, albeit some blood and gore

the movie sucked

fuck william macy
his acting didnt evoke any pity imo
he just has big puppy eyes

WHO CARES
41120, you know that it's based on a true story, right
Posted by duD, Fri Feb-17-06 12:30 AM
41121, actually it's not
Posted by Mynoriti, Fri Feb-17-06 01:15 AM
41122, ha.
Posted by duD, Fri Feb-17-06 01:59 AM
i think i like the movie a little more, now.

i was always on the fence about it.
41123, but there is a lot of well done symbolism in Fargo
Posted by Big Chief Rumbletummy, Fri Feb-17-06 11:38 AM

especially the wide open shots of the highway where you can't make out the horizon
41124, & foreshadowing
Posted by jigga, Fri Feb-17-06 02:38 PM
>
>especially the wide open shots of the highway where you can't
>make out the horizon

I like the shot that slowy reveals the big Paul Bunyan statue...ax in hand.

The score that plays throughout that shot & the rest of the movie is great as well.
41125, RE: her husbands name is norm
Posted by colonelk, Fri Feb-17-06 02:59 PM
How is her husband normal? He paints ducks for a living.

>her pivotal moment in the bar with the asian man

This is symbolic how exactly?

>a ridiculously mundane represenation of the midwest, albeit
>some blood and gore

Thus not mundane.

>fuck william macy
>his acting didnt evoke any pity imo

He has decided to kidnap his own wife for money. I'm not sure pity is the angle the Coens were going for.
41126, I think I'm gonna barf.

41129, While I believe south_jerz is going a bit overboard here...
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Feb-16-06 10:41 PM
...I will say that I've always believed that it's the worst Coen Brothers flick pre-Intolerable Cruelty. Never understood why it's considered the best of their catalogue.
41130, you're crazy
Posted by johnny_domino, Thu Feb-16-06 11:22 PM
Blood Simple? The Hudsucker Proxy? Raising Arizona? Shit, even Barton Fink. It's not only not bad, it's also very, very good.
41131, Fargo is a movie I've tried to make myself like many times
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Feb-17-06 01:01 PM
but I can never do it.

Even when I saw it in the theater, I thought to myself, "I should be loving this, but why is it leaving me feeling flat?"

Ah well, I don't begrudge anyone who loves it, I just disagree. And I certainly don't hate the movie.

And for the record, Blood Simple and Raising Arizona are two of the Coen Brothers best. Just saying.
41132, it took me a couple times to get into it
Posted by johnny_domino, Fri Feb-17-06 02:06 PM
but now I do love it.

Blood Simple I've only seen once so far, I loved that one scene near the end with the holes in the wall, but other than that it didn't do much for me. I think for me it would be a toss-up between that and The Man Who Wasn't There, for worst one before their current drop-off. I didn't like Barton Fink that much either, though I'm making a point to watch it again because it did feel like there was more there that I wasn't quite getting the first time.

So I can understand, it's just a shame, 'cause there's so much to like about it, imo.
41133, Raising Arizona >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fargo

41135, I don't hate Fargo, it just doesn't do anything for me
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Sat Feb-18-06 02:46 AM
I will never understand why it received so much recognition and is considered the Coen Bros' masterpiece while Miller's Crossing (their true masterpiece IMO) is so slept on/underappreciated.
41136, Barton sucked horseshit compared to F

last Tuesday and this little guy's drinkin' and he says, "So where can a guy find some action? I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake." And I says, "What kinda action?" and he says, "Woman action, what do I look like?" And I says, "Well, what do *I* look like, I don't arrange that kinda thing," and he says, "I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake," and I says, "Well, this ain't that kinda place."

Officer Olson: Uh-huh.

Mr. Mohra: So he says, "So I get it, so you think I'm some kinda jerk for askin'," only he doesn't use the word jerk.

Officer Olson: I understand.

Mr. Mohra: And then he calls me a jerk and says the last guy who thought he was a jerk was dead now. So I don't say nothin' and he says, "What do ya think about that?" So I says, "Well, that don't sound like too good a deal for him then."

Officer Olson: Ya got that right.

Mr. Mohra: And he says, "Yah, that guy's dead and I don't mean of old age." And then he says, "Geez, I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake."

Lol, i had to
