39012, Unintentionally funny moments in serious movies
Posted by Adwhizz, Sat Jun-25-05 08:46 PM
Havne't seen one of these posts in a while.

TO get things started I'll go with a little Gem from Magnolia

Near the end when that Red haired lady whose name I can't remember so I'll just call her Reddy McWhore

Anyhow Reddy is breaking down crying over her soon to be dead, RICH husband. SHe startes talking about how she doesn't deserve his money and then she delivers this gem

"I'm a horrible wife, oh my GOd I suck other mens COCKS!"

SHe was so hysterical and so earnest that I couldn't help but laugh.
39013, that was probably meant to be funny / sad

PT is definitely one to loosely mix comedy and tragedy.

Witness the colonel crying while getting the shit beat out of him by his cell-mate in Boogie Nights.

"whaaats in the Box?"

cracks me the fuck up every time.

"I feel sorry for your muva" - Menace II society

and everything between the opening and closing credits in Baby boy
39016, good call
Posted by Mr Mystery, Sat Jun-25-05 10:14 PM
baby boy is the best black comedy in years.

random people always tell me "its a decent movie"

I say "did you laugh most of the movie"

they say "well kinda"

and i say "u wont supposed to be laughing, but at least u didnt fall asleep like it was poetic justice"

the comedic talents of omar gooding and snoop in a wife beater cannot be matched.
39017, I still really don't know
Posted by kayru99, Sun Jun-26-05 02:04 AM
exactly what john singleton was tryin to do with that one...but I'll be damn if that shit ain't HEEE-larious
39018, The first time it wasn't funny.
Posted by chaseman, Mon Feb-19-07 10:36 PM
It was intense. Ya know the whole movie. I think it's only funny now because that line can be put in any context. I do agree it is funny as hell now. I was cracking up when i saw it written there.
In unrelated news: did anybody see Colbert Report where he was pissed at Gwenyth Paltrow for something liberal. and then put a cardboard box on his mantle and just kept hinting at Seven.

Anyway towards the end of the movie, the female lead (i think eva green) keeps making this face kinda like the blue steel from zoolander. Best part is she doesnt say anything, the scenes are like 5 seconds long and it keeps comming back to her with that suprised face. I was rolling...

Star Wars Episode III:
That whole "Anikan, you're breaking my heart" line was so beyond cheesy I lost it.

Batman Begins:
That interrogation scene when Christian Bale is going ballistic asking him questions. His face is just too intense to be taken seriously.
39067, I dunno if I'd consider Star Wars as a 'serious' movie
Posted by buckshot defunct, Mon Jun-27-05 12:37 AM
But at the end of Episode III when Darth lets out that cornball 'NOOOOOO', I just cracked up. And suddenly the theater was overcome by the sound of homemade lightsabers activating, and I wasn't sure if I was gonna make it out of there alive.

Posted by colonelk, Fri Jul-15-05 02:12 AM
He's got some funny moments in strange spots. Full Metal Jacket is full of them. It's never clear what's supposed to be funny and what's supposed to be horrifying.

And a certain bedside scene with Barry Lyndon's little son is way too overripe to be accidental.

39121, The funniest shit I've EVEREVEREVER seen is in...
Posted by FrankEinstein, Sat Jul-02-05 04:13 PM
...'Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood'. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking but the next time it comes on, watch that shit cuz you'll have the best laugh of your life: The big, dramatic culmination of the movie is when you finally learn why Sandra Bullock's character hates her mother so much, played by Ellen Burstyn/Ashley Judd. Judd goes crazy and starts beating the shit out of her kids (in a flashback) with a belt, in the pouring rain. As if that weren't funny enough, low and behold, here comes the wise, old 'friend-of-the-family' negro to try to calm her down, "No, No, NO, Miss Ellie! Ya gots ta stop!" It's too dramatic to be taken seriously, so the laughs already abound, and then it tops itself off by becoming insultingly offensive to the intelligence of anyone with half a brain...so of course, I FUCKING LOVE IT!

Interestingly enough, Ashley Judd is also responsible for another one of my favorite unintetionally funny movie moments: In the sappy, sickeningly sweet nightmare known as 'Simon Birch', the mutated-Willow-hobbit of a title character finally hits what he thinks is a a home-run, only to have it go foul and pop Judd on the top of her pretty little head...AND KILL HER! And she's his BEST FRIEND'S MOM! AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It's just all kinds of motherfucking priceless!

Yeah, I'm kinda sick that way though.

He wasn't the Joker in 1974. Try empathizing with Faye (or Mulray). She really likes this guy and has to tell him her deepest darkest secret. And he doesn't believe her! Heartbreaking, I call it.

"Bourne Identity" when damon takes out the dude who broke into his apt

me and my four boys (all of whom are black or mixed) in a theater with mostly whites. one of my boys at that moment when damon breaks him down and starts to question him said LOUDLY "NIGGA WHO SENT YOU"

that shit was hilarious........part of my laughter was nervous awkward laughter but it was still funny...

Also the scene where Hopper puts on lipstick and starts kissing the guy over and over again. That would have been funny but the girl's reaction to it was just so funny

When Michael is about to whip Jeff's ass, and that naked chick comes out all beaten. That alone isn't funny, but Mike's line "Oh whose that, your Mom ?" got a chuckle

39177, Here's two.....
Posted by BLACKSENSUALITY, Fri Feb-16-07 09:29 PM
1. Danny Glover's potato house scene with Thandie Newton as Beloved. He got hold of the Voodoo Azz, and lost his everlovin mind. As sick as it was that he was doing the memory of Setha's dead baby, and doing her daughter period, every time I see that scene I bust out laughing. Oh and Baby Suge's Woodland ceremony, and the scene where the sistas talk about Beloved coming back from the grave. Shit cracks me up.

2. The scene in, "The Color Purple", when the mayor's wife, Ms. Millie, takes Ms. Sophia to see her family for Christmas, and then nuts up accusing the black men of assaulting her (i.e. attempted rape). As deplorable as her behavior was, assuming that the brothas were trying to defile her purity, something about seeing her fly around in that car and then run to the tree and cling to Ms. Sophia, is funny. I just wanna slap her, like trick do you look in the mirror every day, what self respecting brotha would even take a second look at your buzzard looking azz.

try the wiiiiine. My friend wee just sitting there waiting for the old guy to snap. I laughed the rest of the scene.-(A Clockwork Orange).

Also the entire premise behind that Jet Li movie Hero. I think Tarantino managed to put his name on this somewhere but . . . the whole premise is like
-scene
-thats not what happened
-scene
-thats not what happened
-scene
-thats not what happened
-scene
-ambiguous whether or not that happened
(this may not be 100% accurate but c'mon)

its one character telling a story and another character calling him out on it. everytime that happened me and my buddy started losing it. and then at the end there is some machiavellian moral like: always trust your emperor. and i actually wanted to see this.
