for instance, his signature zoom-in while panning shot looks rubbish

other time he just throws up a painting or a piece of music or something like that and acts like that will do. what i mean is, relying on material from other artforms and circumventing the artform of filmmaking. sometimes i think, 'the music is better than you're film' and other times 'i'm not enjoying the music enough to justify this scene, but there's nothing else.' Even massive budget stuff like Gangs of New York, the quality of the set itself didn't really convince me that it was a real world.
