Their films try desperatley to comment upon the world and humanity when they're hopelessly divirced from any relatable sense of reality. They're all cold, pompous and cynical (I suppose Fellini is an exception but his exuberance is terribly contrived and flimsy).
I do like The Killing and Strangelove, but that's as far as my appreciation of Kubrick goes.
