Felt it was too long... a little too boring... didn't care about Howard Hughes at all... no emotional investment in the characters overall... it was like TWA vs. Pan Am? Who cares? Pissing in bottles? Come on, man...

and for a movie that was supposed to be about such a lively, great man, I couldn't help but walk away thinking about how staid and conservative the movie was shot... I didn't expect loads of trademark Scorsese shots, but still...

Posted by SankofaII, Sun Feb-27-05 04:58 PM
best actor--i think 2 scenarios will happen:

1. Don and Jaime will cancel each other out and Leo will win...

2. Jaime will win for Ray

though Don Cheadle SO deserves to win...

best actress:

1. hilary will win

2. the academy will feel sorry for annette bening and give her a pity oscar for american beauty AND the grifters

3. hilary and annette will cancel each other out and either Vera Drake or Catalina Sandino Moreno will win love kate but folk weren't feeling her in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (though she was the BEST THING about the movie)

El-Rey: shouldnt you be getting some lesson plans together for class tomorrow..:)????

And I know, you picked MDB on the poll...

But here, you were worse than a Laker cheerleader in '88 for The Aviator... so go on 'head and count your points on other websites... but the tune you sang here was quite different... so TAKE THE L on here! lol

huh? I loved it, but I wasn't going on about its wins in an obnoxious manner, unlike SOME people.

Sure, there are differences between who I thought would and should win in several instances. That was just smart picking. lol

I'm taking the L _gracefully_...I wish you'd do the same with your "win." :-)

MDB was a good flick and all, but it's strange to know that it won for best picture, but raging bull did not. It's not even half the film raging bull is.

Wow again!

If they don't give him one, fine, but it's bullshit to keep pumping him up then kicking him in the groin.

My impressions of the awards:

Most times the word ASS has been said.

No Passion of the Christ: because if your not a Christian it's not a good film.

Charlie Kaufman's hair was under control.

Someone make a rule that Beyonce can't sing another song.

Does that guy from Counting Crows look like Kid from Kid and play with a weird haircut?

Mike Myers looked crazy.

Selma Hyack and Penelope Cruz are BABES!!!

Hillary Swank is thin to the point of looking severe.

Why bring all the people for a category on stage at once???

They should get rid of best animated picture if there are less than 5 nominated. If there are only 3 films give them all a cookie or something.

Where are the Mexican roles? I mean we're like 30% Latino in this country now.

Why no award for the 25th anniversary of The Happy Hooker??? I though the academy was liberal.

Albert Brooks needs to make another film that he writes and directs.

Chris Rock slapped down some of the Hollywood elite while they were 30 feet from him. He's no coward.

Thank GOD for Tivo. I watched the interesting parts in just over an hour.

Unless Chris Rock hosts next year I probably won't watch it.

Did you know there is a new bowling alley attached to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood?

Not exactly. It's Lucky Strike...on the corner of Hollywood and Highland, right next to the Kodak Theater. But it's not a part of it.

>No Passion of the Christ: because if your not a Christian
>it's not a good film.

Look who makes up most of the Academy.

>Charlie Kaufman's hair was under control.

It's a shame that this award was given so late in the broadcast, because 30 seconds is absurd. I woulda loved to see dude ramble for like 5 mins.

>Someone make a rule that Beyonce can't sing another song.

I didn't mind it the first time, but it was a lil' much by the end. Still, she looked beautiful, so I ain't complaining too hard.

>Does that guy from Counting Crows look like Kid from Kid and
>play with a weird haircut?

Yes, he does.

>Mike Myers looked crazy.

As opposed to the rest of the time?

>Selma Hyack and Penelope Cruz are BABES!!!

No kidding. Selma's gotta be pushing 40, right?

>Hillary Swank is thin to the point of looking severe.

She's a two face. You see her, and you think, wow, she's actually quite attractive. And then, the next time you see her, YAMA HAMA IT'S FRIGHT NIGHT.

>Why bring all the people for a category on stage at once???

To save time. Bahahahaha.

>They should get rid of best animated picture if there are
>less than 5 nominated. If there are only 3 films give them
>all a cookie or something.

Shhh, you trying to upset the animation people? Don't be fooled by their milk moustahces and Winnie The Pooh pyjamas. They're quite mean. But I agree. I mean, "Shark Tale"? Really?

>Chris Rock slapped down some of the Hollywood elite while
>they were 30 feet from him. He's no coward.

Who did he slap down, exactly?

>Unless Chris Rock hosts next year I probably won't watch it.

I could care less whether Chris Rock hosts or not. Because a watered down Chris Rock is useless to me. And yes, I know, it's the Oscars, he can't be even half of what he usually is. Well then get someone who fits the format better.

>Did you know there is a new bowling alley attached to the
>Kodak Theater in Hollywood?

I bet that's where Marty drowned out his sorrows.

Posted by Nettrice, Mon Feb-28-05 01:54 AM
...for me at least. I enjoyed watching Foxx get his award and I loved his acceptance speech, esp. how he honored the Black women in his life, including the ones on the front rows with him (Berry, Oprah, daughter). That was worth the price of admission, so to speak.

I wished Cheadle could have gotten an honorary award (or Best Director)...and I have a feeling that Scorcese is due for a lifetime achievement very soon. I was actually hoping the academy would give him one last night.

i know many people decry award shows but i have a (perhaps perverse) fascination with them- even when they're boring and crap. and there's a lot of answers for pub trivia to be learnt.

i really enjoyed most of the telecast. Chris Rock was sharp and was a fine host. Cate Blanchett won. i was happy with most of the winners- and Jamie Foxx gave a moving if somewhat spooky speech. (he's going to talk to his dead grandmother about his oscar in his head tonight?)(okay.)

my one question is-

what hold does Matthew Knowles have on the academy?
