I guess I was misled by the original trailor. I mean, a bunch of black people yelling at a white cinema employee and high-fiving each other....it kinda looked like a really oversimplified, preachy movie.

It's been a LONG time since I seen it...but do you remember 'Hangin with the Homeboys'? I loved that movie. Gotta see it again. But I remember that it avoided the trap of making too much good guy/bad guy narratives in regards to racial issues. The characters were flawed in some ways, righteous in others....you felt for their struggles, but you also seen how they erred in reacting. I had assumed that 'Dear White People' wasn't gonna do that but it's starting to look like I was wrong. I'm hearing that it's not just a series of one-note characters.
