We need those movies, but the cynic in me says they are uber rare.

Imho in the history of film only one movie has ever done a good job(and id love to be proved wrong); Do the Right Thing. The rest of those late 80's early 90's movies came off as 'ghetto-porn'...alot of the later critiques leveled at Precious you could lay on the Boyz, etc...those movies have not aged well, lol.

That said, I don't see why people are hating at people giving it another go, especially the independent route. For all our bitching and whining of lets say Girls the way she got on was filing 'Tiny Furniture' on cheap and doing the festival circuit. Like Basiglia pointed out let support it now then trash the fuck out of it later, lol.
