115347, That's old school thinking on scifi Posted by B9, Thu May-30-13 11:08 AM
>1. We're talking science fiction. Not HARD science fiction, >which takes great care to keep things as realistically >plausable as possible, but summer blockbuster sci-fi.
Then don't make it "Earth" unless this is some of that nuskool religiony shit he and Tom are into.
>2. In a sci-fi world, it's a perfectly plausable idea that the >evolutionary process could accelerate for whatever reason. No, >this doesn't need to be explained in the movie.
speed up evolution...okay...
>No, because literally no genre gives more creative license >than sci-fi except fantasy. You do realize the SS Enterprise >is pretty much impossible to build based on the sheer cost, >right?
Engineering is one thing with greater license that out and out natural sciences; the Enterprise is impossible to build based on our current mechanical abilities and capacity. But the future?
compare that to a leopard or whatever: it's not going to just quickly decide to grow antlers because it makes it more badass; that's not remotely how evolution works.
