If Q dog is trash, he's trash. If Nolan is trash, he's trash.

Same goes for Night Dog.

Playing the "You shit on Night Dog, BUT WHAT ABOUT Q AND NOLAN?" turns the conversation on it's head and destroys any sense of objectivity. It's the worst kind of agenda, because you're playing a defensive game instead of a balanced one.

Q's N word usage is almost always reasonable in the context of his films. It always makes sense in that world. That's not even up for debate. His movies are usually pretty good to boot.

The problem is his constant fetishizing- some say bastardizing- of the word and black culture, and that's valid. It's troubling that he finds a way to fit it into everything he does. That's the issue IMO- not that he uses it, but that's he's excessive and damn near obsessed with it. He relies on "authenticity" as a catch-all crutch to justify his usage. Scorcese does this too, but nowhere near to the degree that Q does. He gets away with it because his films tend to be well made and exist in worlds that play up their schlocky sensibilities.

That's got nothing to do with Shyamalan's work. He takes intriguing ideas and characters and settings and often turns them into cheap, generic end products that fall far short of the hype, and make no mistake- he was HEAVILY hyped until The Village. The twist is his N word, that's his black culture fetish. The issue is never the twist as a device, but the execution and/or build that people tend to take issue with and he hasn't executed well between Signs and Devil. Night's movies are always earnest, yet the schlock creeps in where it's unwanted and unwarranted. The Happening is nothing but unintentional comedy from start to finish. Ditto The Last Airbender.

Playing the race card as the only reason people shit on Night and slobber Q is short sighted and misses all the context of what makes their films good or bad on their own merits.
