Well, some digital films are made for virtually nothing but at our end of the semester film festival all of the digital films looked like shit. It seems strange but for some reason all of the digital films looked very unproffesional.
Rule one for digital if you must is to stay indoors and away from windows! If you shoot digital, shoot 24p, light carefully and stay inside...that is your best bet.
On the other hand, being a filmmaker is about being a storyteller. Telling a bunch of stories on the cheap on digital will familiarize you with your craft. BUT, people shooting digital tend to get lackadasical.
