114640, THE SPILLED LATTE AWARDS: Voting ends in TWO HOURS. VOTE NOW!
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jan-31-14 12:00 PM
Here's the deal. You think the Academy is bound to get it wrong. They always do. Well, now it's our turn.

I want you to post up your 5 favorites in ten major categories-- Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Original Score.

**Vote for as many or as few of the categories as you'd like.**

I would also like you to rank these from best to worst-- 5 points for your favorite, 1 point for your 5th favorite. If you don't have 5 you enjoyed in a category, rank the ones you did find praiseworthy (example: Best Supporting Actress isn't the deepest field, so if you have only three performances you dug, give out 5, 4, and 3 points to those three). Note: If you vote for fewer than three people for a particular category, your votes for that category will NOT be cast.

Example ballot:

BEST PICTURE
5 points- Grown Ups 2
4 points- RIPD
3 points- A Haunted House
2 points- Kick Ass 2
1 point- The Counselor

BEST ACTOR
5 points- Ryan Reynolds in RIPD
4 points- Marlon Wayans in A Haunted House
3 points- Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Kick Ass 2
2 points- Adam Sandler in Grown Ups 2
1 point- Michael Fassbender in The Counselor

Etc.

I realize many of us live in cities that get limited release films much later, but all of the major players have gone theatrical or VOD by now, so you have up until March (a whole month!) to post your official selections.

I will then add up the votes and post the "nominees" (the top five finishers in voting) shortly after. The official Spilled Latte Awards will be posted before the actual Oscars, so that we can brag when the Oscars arrive about how much better our list of winners is.

The categories have also been split up TO MAKE VOTING EASIER. You no longer have to compile one massive ballot a la homework. Vote for as many or as few categories in a day as you wish. Only have time to figure out two categories? Vote for those and figure out the rest next week! And so on and so forth.

By the way, PLEASE ONLY VOTE ONCE IN EACH CATEGORY! Multiple amendments make it very very difficult for the person keeping track-- me. So wait if you want to, or make your votes now and inbox me your changes so that I can edit them into your post.

I'm gonna be deleting extraneous posts that have nothing to do with rule clarification or declaration of ballot formation. So if the post count suddenly drops, you'll know why, lol. Just clearing out the clutter to make my job easier.

Finally, if you need help looking for additional, lesser-watched films to fill out your ballots with some less-publicized but equally worthy fare, check out the For Your Consideration post, which will remain locked and anchored.

Let's see your votes, people. Choose em, rank em, throw em up.

Nothing really blew me away cinematography-wise. I should not that the version of GRANDMASTER I saw was bit-mapped within an inch of its life (which I can't tell if that was a "director's choice" or just the crappy American edit) and I personally had a hard time figuring out what was the cinematographer and what was CGI in GRAVITY. That's a compliment to the film overall, but withdraws it from this category for me.
