And while it's not as allegedly dour and dark and depressing as the Nolan Batmans, it's certainly not as fun as The Avengers and is actually quite solemn, almost mournful, even with the one-liners. Death and thoughts of death permeate the movie; of course it starts with that crazy chase, which ends with M saying "Agent down," then cutting right to the mournful (and actually quite wonderful) Adele theme song. Of course, this theme of death and getting older didn't actually take away from my enjoyment of the film; just added a little welcomed bit of gravitas to it.

However, the literal sense of time is actually confusing to me, given the reboot with Casino Royale. Everyone around Bond is younger, or a new model of someone else (ie, the new M), but how much older is James Bond supposed to be than these new people? I'm asking while fully admitting that I forgot how old he was supposed to be in Casino Royale, and whether or not he had been a long-established agent at the start of that movie. Pay no mind to this note, just rambling.

Anyway, Bardem made a wonderful villain. And it's not like he did anything we haven't really seen before in these movies, but I thought he was great because of the slight twinge of sympathy that you (I) felt for him... I mean, he SPOILER was essentially thrown under the bus by M back in the day, and, while that's the nature of the beast, it was still fucked up.

I'm also SPOILER going to miss the interplay between Bond and M. While not exactly mother-son, there was a sense of family between the two, and I always thought that Craig and Dench played those scenes very well, and the emotion is well-earned by the time we get to the end...

The final assault on Skyfall was shot and edited beautifully.

Also, just a reminder that I am in love with Naomie Harris.

What was up with Severine's shaking and nervous tics? Was that the actress or were we supposed to infer that she was some kind of drug addict? Also, her face was kinda square. Just saying.

Really cool entry into the series and worth seeing for Deakins' masterful work, Javier Bardem's flamboyant performance, and to see a nice curtain call for Dame Judi Dench in this role...
