Christian Bale is English. His accent was fine, though depicting someone with little education.

Jackman's Angier character is someone born of nobility trying not to sound like a noble. He also had to distinguish his character from the drunk.

Although Jackman is Australian...it isn't as if he's unfamiliar with the English accent. Neither Bale or Jackman had an easy roles to portray. I think they did a fuckin good job of it all.
