i think it was intentional for people to figure out the twin part early..especially they LITERALLY tell you throughout the movie...caine's character immediately figured it whut he was doing by saying he uses a double...

i think it was intentional because it's not about the twist, the twist is only another ingredient to the actual point to the story which was the obsession...

the last part of the movie sums it up real nice when caine said something like they didn't want to know how it was done they just want to constently be duped over & over...
