Please note that most white people consider Fellowship of the Ring (1st movie) the best of the three. Everyone knows Return of the King (last one) only won Best Picture as a nod to the craftsmanship of the whole trilogy. Personally I like The Two Towers (2nd movie) the most. And I do know some white people who despise LOTR.

I think something lost in this whole "debate" is the simple fact that people don't wanna read while watching movies. Sad but true.
