The year Jackson was nominated, Martin Landau won for Ed Woord (Apollo 13 hadn't come out yet.)

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Winner:
Ed Wood (1994) - Martin Landau

Other Nominees:
Bullets Over Broadway (1994) - Chazz Palminteri
Forrest Gump (1994) - Gary Sinise
Pulp Fiction (1994) - Samuel L. Jackson
Quiz Show (1994) - Paul Scofield (I)

Gary Sinise probably would have won over Jackson that year too.

And Ed Harris only got nominated the following year (Keyser Soze got it).
