I think it's one of those movies people are prepared to hate because of the parties involved (Williams, Damon/Afleck), or don't feel they're supposed to like because it's too sappy or whatever. but it's just... good. I'll take Van Sant's sentimental straight forward storytelling over the continuous tracking shot known as "Elephant" any day.

I was only put off a bit by 25th Hour's ending dragging the first time around. now I have no problem with it.
