Which he did. Marty's recent flicks aren't anywhere close to the films that made him. The Departed was entertaining but the best parts were the one-liners and jokes. To me, the most damning part of the film was that the key scene (when they were handing over the microprocessors) was done much better in Infernal Affairs. It's pretty ridiculous that Scorsese finally won best director by letting Jack, Baldwin, and Wahlberg ham it up.

Almost all of his post-Goodfellas films have been a mixed bag. Granted, I'm not sure if you can really expect a guy to maintain the level of Goodfellas, Raging Bull, and Taxi Driver but still the fact that The Departed won best picture and that Gangs of New York was somehow even nominated for Best Picture is evidence enough that Marty-love had gotten out of hand.

Hopefully The Departed will end this era and Shutter Island will begin a Scorsese renaissance.
