One major benefit of segregation would the ability to focus on self. Knowledge of self was one thing stressed by the N.O.I. that I took with me as a beneficial lesson and its importance is vital. I'm not one for complete segregation, but I do see some benefits. It allows one to focus attention of ones own problems more clearly. From that we can move on to working on fixing our problems. Like the saying goes, one must love one's self before they can love anyone else. (Or something like that!)
