you only have one vote, so make it count.

The forum on activist board managment has been up for several weeks now. This isn't a space for new material. Here we will vote on and discuss the current entries.

Speak on it. This poll will be up for a month. If you choose not to participate in this process, that fine...realize, however that if your voice isn't heard now it won't be considered later.

To peep the convo on these new suggestions, and for clarification on exactly what we are doing here check out this link:

31729, This is stupid. Who determines what a weak post is? You? LOL...

Please man... that's so fucking subjective... and a bit of a power trip don't you think?
31730, RE: This is stupid. Who determines what a weak post is? You? LOL...

Deleting weak posts is just one suggestion and on the count so far, isn't the voter's choice, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
31731, RE: This is stupid. Who determines what a weak post is? You? LOL...

aqua knows his posts are weak that is why he is afraid.
31732, Um...

im a capitalist...
31736, This is funny to me because I didn't suggest the idea
Posted by FireBrand, Thu Oct-13-05 05:36 PM
nor am I a fan of it. It's up to YOU ALL. If you don't like it I suggest you vote against it.

Another thing that is curious to me is how you have singled me out.

1.) I am not the only mod here- not that we had anything to do with the suggestion of this new practice.

2.) The ENTIRE discussion on house rules in activist is ANCHORED for you to read the discussion as it went on for over a MONTH.

3.) You still haven't voted against it, which means that when individual situations come up to interpretation there is THAT much less margin you will be given because obviously you don't respect the board enough to participate in what is a very open, and objective process IMO.

Thanks for your input tho.

Some are call-to-action, event-oriented messages that posters rarely have a chance to see less than respond to. These type of messages also drop quickly.

31739, word. that is also a bit weird in how to implement such things.
Posted by FireBrand, Thu Oct-13-05 05:40 PM
For example currently in my inbox I have 4 anchor requests for what people feel are call to action posts.

Do we need 4 anchors up?

In any case, I don't believe this was brought up in the discussion which means it will have to wait another 3 months before we can address this.

We like to try and be as consistant as possible with rules and regulations.

If I'm wrong, I'll adjust the poll.

31740, create anchored post labeled "events" (or something like that)
Posted by nonaime, Sat Oct-15-05 03:10 PM
call to action threads get put in there w/ mod approval. Give the entire post an anchor life of about 2weeks, archive when expired. rinse, repeat as new events come up.

Threads that need to stay alive for more than 2 weeks can be transfered to the new anchored post.

31741, interesting. I think we can do that.

31742, dunno if this came up on the other post
Posted by LexM, Thu Oct-13-05 02:53 PM
but what about bi-monthly topic limits for frequently brought-up stuff?

e.g., if someone posts some variation of "do you believe in god/does god exist" within a 2 month period, it should all be consolidated into one post.

OR you could have "top 5" topics floating around...almost like sub-forums within activist.

i know some of that is done now, but i think this is one forum where we shouldn't have to see the same posts put up by "newbies" every other week.

if you understand what i'm saying.

We've seen a lot of those redundant, needless spinoff threads lately. Especially religious ones.

31751, Ah, so create another forum . Lemme explain...
Posted by FireBrand, Fri Oct-14-05 11:03 AM
Like I said, that's not going to happen and here's why:

What we are doing here in allowing the denizens of OKPActivist have a say in governance is not something that is made room for inside the guidelines.

This is a courtesy extended to you by your current mods. If and when our tenure ends, you will not be able to anticipate this courtesy.

We extend this to the forum because we feel that it is necessary that the people make up the rules that create a safe space for discourse.

The current guidlines, we feel, are a great STARTING place- a skeletal outline.

Recognizing the oft volatile and subjective nature of the commentary in this forum, we want to ensure that the conversations here are as productive, salient, and open as possible.

There have been transgressions in the past that have kept this board from having even one or two noteworthy posts available on the first 3 pages.

This project Chike and I have developed is a method to keep this from being a part of Activist's future while we are mod and hopefull even after our stay here.

We cannot expect, or hope for shit like creating another board.

Cus frankly, it's not OKP policy to give the forum itself a role in day to day protocol.

Understand?

I voted for anchoring the good posts but I think that you shouldn't delete "weak posts" either. First off what makes it weak? Second unless it contains something not allowed then it isn't fair to the voice speaking to be shut down because others may not like it. I think you should maybe delete OLD OLD posts that are outdated and are just taking up space but that should be after a few weeks at least. Only delete posts that violate your forum rules. That's my 2 cents..Peace.
