It was for me and it is for her. I inherited a certain openness and tolerance from my mother without a need to seek justification for who I was/am. Unfortunately, my friend isn't so lucky and songs can only do so much to show alternative, more life affirming behaviors.

Thanks for this...but believe me she already thinks she's pretty. We're a good match because it took years for me to get to a place she's already at at age 13. It's the sexy thing that is the issue. Because of her abandonment by her father, she is trying so hard to make up for the lack of attention and love with boys. I see it all the time and try hard to relate (my father never left). In this case, being sexy means being wanted, loved, needed, etc. Having sex means the same thing and this is where we mess up.
