Not only American society but religion as we know it. How would you feel if everything you ever knew to be true was a lie? You wouldn't know how to function. And for the person on this board that said the race of Jesus didn't matter, tell that to all the slave owners that told slaves that their lord and saviour was a white man and the pride they would feel to know different? They were basically taught (and subliminally, we are still being taught this) that the African race was inferior in every way. To know that someone with your skin tone was performing the miracles that he performed would have definitely gave slaves a strong pride of themselves and their ancestry. And we all know how scared White folks were/are of strong Black people. The race of Jesus is very relevant and it should not be considered trivial or trite.
