What will we have to do to get this shit rectified in 2008? Clearly this Bush thing has been a failure and will only get worse. He is spending more than any recent pres while cutting taxes left and right (the first few coupled with the cutting of interest seemed smart as hell, but DAMN if he aint keep doing that shit).

-So...our budget surplus is gone.
-Our military is stretched thin AND over worked
-cultural divides as they pertains to class, sexual orientation, religious and ethnic diversity have argueably WIDENED as well.

I mean shit, there really is no Defending much of what Bush has done. and it's fittna get worse.

So with all that in mind, what needs to be done leading up to 2008 to stop the bleeding?

what will YOU do?

who are you supporting? why?

Kerry was a joke. Who will bring more to the table?

you have always been and will always be tiresome as long as your goal is not productive thought but self-aggrandizement. I've never once read a positive or constructive comment out of your simplistic, black and white mind.

"If you would have listened to me......"
"I told you so..."
translation.....
"somebody please affirm that I am as important and smart as I think I am. VALIDATE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yin. Yang. Without you there could be no positive, thoughtful, thought provoking energy around here, so thanks, I guess.

So in lieu of Jeb or Arrhhhhnald, who u thinkin bout in 2008?

Is there someone on the cusp? I always liked Ford from Tennessee. He seems to be on top of things.

I dunno about ALL of his policy, but I think he could get a few crossover votes pulled as a VP. who for pres tho?

How about destroying Democracy as we know it.. .
it's been proven again and again that it doesn't work...

Socialism has been more effective... although that's not my suggestion.

to some degree yeah...
but on issues such as healthcare and education...
that could greatly help the economy and the poor...
providing more opportunity and sharply declining crime as we know it... it's impact could affect more than we realize.
Also... Bush should be tried as war criminal.
Bush
Cheney
for pulling us into a war that was fake...
that had personal implications
and personal gain.
Also he should be tried as war criminal for his hand in the Chevez coup of 2001.

*sigh* co-sign.

In response to Firebrand, Socialism is not defunct at all. It has been a very successful SOCIETAL principal (Canada, Sweden, Finland), but it has never truly been attempted SINCERELY as a governing system (USSR was far from socialistic in governmental application, as is China today). Like Waterboy alluded, its application to education and medicine would do wonders to save those two dying systems in our country. Our capitalistic system has proved only to treat these systems as businesses. Health and education as business is, umm, not a good idea. California is privatizing their social services? Let's see, privatize SOCIAL services....that can't turn out well. If equality is a goal even in name in this country, then health, education and individual well-being cannot be driven by the dollar. This is not anything new or profound, just important.

the man started a war on WMD's...
there were none.
What solid grounds did he have?
He lied.
The scientific community said it, the people said it, hell even Sadam himself. What more do you need, that's not hearsay, that's a fact.

26901, RE: huh?HUH?!!
Posted by AquamansRevenge, Wed Feb-23-05 07:44 AM
How about he never proved it was true!
Why do I have to disprove someone who never proved his original claim?
The scientific community already stated that when he came to them about the tubing they thought they intercepted out of Kenya into Iraq was only good for a air conditioner...
they told them it could no way support any mass weapon...
they told Colin Powell that as well...
two days later he went to the UN and said the complete opposite...
the complete opposite..
the same scientists were under the impression he was discussing different tubing... he wasn't.

You cannot start a war and have no facts...
how about not one point he ever made was proven...
that's why the entire world (with the exception of comfortable and bloated ass America) is in a uproar...
the same presentation presented by Powell was written by a student in San Diego five years prior...
please... Bush's case for war was the weakest ever...
the same man who said he wasn't even 'worried about Bin Laden' that he doesn't even 'think about him anymore'....
you prove to me he was right... let's start there.
26902, at least you are passionate.
Posted by FireBrand, Wed Feb-23-05 08:37 AM
but that's not enough. At some point you will have to have EVIDENCE that will be able to stand up in court that he KNEW that the information presented to him was insufficient but that he attacked anyway.

If you can't PROVE that, with HARD evidence like maybe a inside staffer hearing him SAY:" man I don't care if they get the info or not, we are attacking that summmma batch!"

then you got nuffin.

Waterboy, listen.....I'm friggin' sure you would be the kind of cat to label himself a 'revolutionary' in a heartbeat, so propose a solution instead of just being an actionless, reactionary critic. What kind of shit is "it's too late"?

Say "it's too late" to the writings/words of Huey, Marcus, Malcom, Langston. I dare you.

Are you telling us there was only a short window in which we who oppose the Bush admin. could actively get something done in opposition? Now that he "won" a second election we should collectively sit on our hands until your wisdom climbs the mountain, identifies the new window of opportunity and shines a light briefly on a better future, one in which we can speak in ambiguous, open-ended statements followed by....... (so we can retract our statements or claim they were misinterpretted later if they are proved to be short sighted, right Waterboy?)

we should have forcefully got him out...
we should have held him accountable for the election scam...

but check this out... easy on the namecalling.

26908, RE: so what SOLUTIONS do you proprose?

We absolutely should have held him accountable for the election scam and for about 500 other things (his outing of Joseph Wilson's wife is not only an impeachable offense, but one for which he and Rove should be imprisoned for treason), but we didn't. Now that it has happened, there is no reason to say "it's too late" - it's never too late. I bet a few people in Germany in 1936 said, "well, it's too late now". Were they right?

Oh, and are you referring to the "Waterboy" as name calling? C'mon, man, that shit is funny.

Could you school me on this?

It should be impeachable for Cheany to hang out and go hunting with Justice Scalia while the Supreme court was prisiding (sp?) over a case of one of Cheany's companies.

Among other things, yes, Bush should be impeached for the War, Chavez, etc. Corporate interests and pussy politicians will never let this happen. Needs to be major push internationally for this. Will the U.S. dollar failing and other countries becoming stronger, is it just a matter of time b/4 U.S. is no longer a super power? What would that mean for the world and what would that do to this country?

Scan the topic, you'll notice that when it is warranted, I have responded with thoughts. When you shat that same tired bullshit that you have been for years now (accusatory, self-righteous, ambiguous, easily retracted), I responded in kind. It amuses me and I like to be amused. I ain't mad at you, that would imply that I have given you my energy, and that ain't gonna happen. These are internet boards - they can be entertaining, but in the end, what do they matter, so anger doesn't reside here.
You make the assumption that I live on a farm and that has produced my corni-tude. I embrace my corni-tude and a farm has nothing to do with it. Chuck some more labels out there and let's play "How'd the white guy get so corny?"

I completely agree.
I screwed up in the last 6 years. Clinton was good for me, and I was lulled into thinking it'll always be this way.

I voted Nader in '00. McCain is someone I would vote for today.

But these last presidential elections taught me to be on guard and try and see behind the rhetoric.

Even if I can't, or if I do get another lullaby, hopefully my experience will guide me to the better path. Not neccesarily the right path, but the best one available.

agreed...
but keep in mind...
Mccain... he's the clean up man...
any man that pops up on talk shows and claims to be for the people yet still secretly supports Bush and Rumsfield, his friends... isn't on the up and up.
Remember this
"Mr. Secretary of State, I'm deeply dissapointed in you... deeply"
not even five minutes later
'Mr. McCain, should the Sec. resign?'
Mccain - "Well let's not get ahead of ourselves here, it's too soon to tell and resign is a strong word. I think we all learned a lesson here today"

He is down with them... they use him to even out the oil in the water to make things go down a little smoother...

I feel everyone on McCain because he seems like a real straight shooter. In the end though he is just another republican who will have slashing social programs and increased tax cuts and defense spending on his agenda. That is not helping anyone in the lower to mid-class adn it sure ain't helping black folks.
26930, Governor Bill Richardson
Posted by dingo23, Wed Feb-23-05 06:03 AM
Senators just can't make it as a nominee any more. Spotty Senate records & attendance usually do them in. The last Senator elected President was Kennedy (I think).

I'm hoping for Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico with Obama as his VP selection. Let's see how a "shade of brown & hue of ebony" ticket can do in America.

Richardson was one of the most respected members of Clinton's cabinet as Energy Secretary. The people of New Mexico have elected him into office two separate times. He has turned New Mexico around with his progressive minded policies. He believes in funding for renewable energy tecnologies, presevation of open spaces in the West, has a great stance on Health Care.

This guy's really got IT...I just hope Red Staters will be able to get past the melanin in his skin. Check out where he stands on issues you care about: http://www.issues2000.org/Bill_Richardson.htm
26931, Agreed on the Senator issue.

I think it would be hard for a Senator to defend the potential for spin on each vote with so much pork loaded into all 'em bills.

Interesting.

I don't know that I would rush to Obama so quickly. He's gonna have to prove himself. Ford, I like.

I have yet to hear much about Ford...I'll check him out. I guess I was just going ballz out for a "minority" ticket.

With Richardson as Prez candidate other possibilities I see for for VP: Senator Clinton, Governor Thomas J. Vilsack of Iowa, another rising star is Governor Mark Warner of Virgina, and look out for Governor Brad Henry of Oklahoma (the guy has decent numbers in a staunchly Republican state).
26933, RE: A Senator could be VP

i say no to warner. go to issues2000.org and he stands closer to republican ideals. Which is why he won virginia. Richardson is good though.
26934, RE: Governor Bill Richardson
Posted by kid, Wed Feb-23-05 06:38 AM
Yeah, Kennedy was the last.
Actually, I thought about Richardson also. But I think it'll still be early for Obabma, you can't get elected into that office just for having a dynamite speech at the DNC. (And it was Dynamite!) He'll have to do some bang up work and the clock is ticking. Richardson at least has administration experience.

Heres an idea, stop seperating people into blue and red states. (not neccesarily you dingo23) I realize how many people are doing it, but if you keep going back and reinforcing that, we'll never be able to agree. 'Cause it'll always be us v. them.

But Kerry was tryin to win the country! It was pretty obvious Kerry gave up on Missouri early. If we can get past this red/blue state shit, I can/can't win this region, people may vote for charecter rather than who is the only candidate runnin spots in their area.

co-sign on Obama. He definitely represents an exiting future, but that future will only be realized if he can produce results from within the system and this current system is going to throw a fridge on his back as he tries to run this race. I am behind him completely, but I don't have a pile of hope that he will be able to buck the burdens of a two-party system devoid of real truth (not to mention any resemblence to a democratic process -- see: plutocracy)

If Kerry was the one chosen to defeat this friggin' facist the last time, then we need to discuss not WHO can make the pendulum swing back, but HOW we are choosing our candidates.
If we (meaning Bush admin. opposition) can not defeat a standing president with the kind of record littered with cases like that of Joseph Wilson and his wife, then we need to look inward at our own actions, or lack thereof, not who else is going to take action to change that which we bitch about. The material is there, folks, we just have to know it and use it. I think I recall hearing the phrase "knowledge is power" before. Hmmmmm, sounds interesting.

LOL, I got what you're sayin.

I agree with the selection process. It occured to me that Kerry might not have wanted to win. I saw the primaries as the Clintonite or status quo (Kerry) v. a new democratic party (Dean)

With Dean as the new chairman, we may have some (exiting, j/k) elections coming up.
26947, Dean
Posted by dingo23, Wed Feb-23-05 07:18 AM
Yeah, but Dean has got to reach out to non-whites. He has said some things recently that have been a little off base. That hotel staff comment the other day (while taken out of context) has branded him a racist by conservative pundits. Hopefully he can turn the party around.

Thats the problem. Conservatives are extremely good at making people look bad.

Clinton used to deal with it perfectly. Whenever the mud machne came through on him, he'd turn it around on them. Kerry and Edwards turned a blind eye and that made them look even worse, cause it's one or the other, it's true what they say about you, or your a coward that won't confront them.
26950, RE: Dean
Posted by AquamansRevenge, Wed Feb-23-05 07:27 AM
but you see, Clinton was no different...
look at how he singlehandedly turned his back on Rwanda...
this is why we are lost, cause we really believe that there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans... at the end of the day they are rich, white, christian men... all of them.
all of them. That's the problem... how can they expect to represent a country they don't understand? Namean? They are quick to draw parallels to the Kennedy's who were a photo op family and was all image (except Bobby). meanwhile someone who really gave a damn like Carter they make fun of. trust... you can't win with the current dynamics.
26951, RE: Dean

There are a couple Bobby Kennedys out there, and the system is broke, but if we can see past certain things like the blue/red seperation tactics, we can start to fix it.

Maybe it's time to stop taking all the pot shots and call out publicly villify the most conservative of issues. ie: "A Culture of Life"; How is it that we live in a nation that is really starting to believe that we need to "defend the rights of the unborn," yet we don't get adequate health care for poverty stricken children, we execute criminals, bomb WMD-less nations, and attempt to rob Social Security (the last blanket for many retired folks) and invest those funds in the private sector. Culture of life...till your born, then your on your own! More frickin' B.S.

>Culture of life...till your born,

hahahaha, true, it's just that the dems aren't as good at demonizing people.

When you believe in something soo much that it's almost divine, it's easy to use such tactics. Liberals see more of an issue because they don't have the ideals embedded in them. In a better effort to come up with the best solution, they'll try to see all sides of something, when you do that, it's difficult to argue as vehemently as the right.

The Dems need to win the South. ANd they need to have someone who will take a stand, unlike Kerry.

Russ Feingold-(D) Senator from Wisconsin.

Great friends with McCain, voted against Patriot Act,voted against Iraq War,impeccable record, there's no divergence or flip flopping. And he can carry a constant swing stae(Wisconsin).

He also won Wisconsin with 60% of the vote even though Kerry barely carried it.And he has been making inroads on the South(doing speeches in Alabama, gettin invited in by the Govenor there).

Not to mention the fact he will murder them all in ANY debate.Rhodes Scholar,UW Madison graduate,3 term Senator(who wouldn't have to leave office unless he won a Presidential election).

And also, you don't have to win any Southern states.Win Illinois,New York,Pennsylvania,Ohio and California, and you win the Presidency.
26970, Interesting.

I've heard his name come up, but why would YOU vote for him?

how will he defeat the Jewish sentiment that is sure to come up?

how will ole boy fight any issues that someone brought up earlier about Senator's records being used against them?

Good pick tho. I forgot about him.

There isn't one instance of him paying lip service and voting another way.Not one. He's as absolutely as clean as they come, and has genuinly voted with his conscience. The Repubs can only get him on being Jewish(which I'm not sure he is.)

He's the only one to vote against the Patriot Act,so the Far left will love him,and he is moderate on a couple issues, and will back them up.He may be the perfect candidate.Certainly better than Obama right now.And I like Obama,he just needs to do something.

They pointed to her working with folk across the aisles like McCain, etc...

You know what? I may ruffel some feathers here for saying this, but we were asking for another four years of Bush anyway.

Before you jump on me, it is because all we do is slam Democratic nominiees, regardless who they are. This is the same garbage Tavis Smiley said in his commentaries on the Tom Joyner Morning Show during the election. All he did was trash Kerry, yet praise any other Dem that was running. He NEVER said anything positive about Kerry. In fact, he laughed at everything Kerry tried to do even though it fell short.

We, yes, I mean we made it worse (Tavis too) by believing the lies of the media, and the vicious, mean-spirited Rovian talking points against Kerry. Tavis blew a golden opportunity to educate blacks about Kerry's near perfect record regarding Civil Rights legislations, and the issues from the official campaign website but I guess Tavis was mad that Clinton wasn't running again so he takes it out on someone else. I guess we were just spoiled by Clinton (yes, I liked him too) to not think about what kind of president Kerry could have been.

I don't remember Gore or anyone else getting this much abuse as Kerry has. Yet, look at what Kerry has done after the election. He recently co-sponsored a bill with Mrs. Jackie Robinson to reward Jackie a Congressional Medal Of Honor, has pushed for a Kids-First health care plan, just like he said he would on TJMS, and against ANWAR. Also, you wonder about the election in Ohio, well, there is a lawsuit still pending. This is stuff the media won't tell you.

Yes, I was ABB until the DNC convention and NO I don't agree with Kerry's stance on Iraq. Yes, I do believe he should have brought up race more, and I think he conceded too soon. No, he wasn't perfect and yes, mistakes were made. I am glad Dean is the new DNC chairman. He makes sense unlike the last one. In fact, we should have listened to Kerry alot more during the campaingn.

I can't wait until 2008. I hope we find the "perfect" candidate. I will nit-pick him or her, believe the daily media spins and whine all throughout the election. Hey, don't blame me, I kept my mouth shut, turned off the TV and voted for Kerry.

rant done.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I shall continue to culturally divorce myself from all of it except what I need to do to survive.
