(i'm not American)... all I know is that for years I've been saying "oriental" without meaning it in any negative way, primarily to communicate that I'm talking about a Chinese/Japanese/Korean person and not an Indian/Pakistani person. And now, all of a sudden, some authority on political correctness informs me that I've got to stop using that word. I mean I would never even know if I didn't log onto Okayplayer. It just seems ridiculous
