23690, Eff a Republican and Eff a Democrat..........
Posted by BurbKnight, Fri Jul-07-00 06:13 AM
Whatever happened to voting for the person who seems right in their campaign?

I get tired of hearing people saying they are Democrat or they are Republican......

To me, they are all crooked. That's why I vote for whoever seems right.

Does anyone else feel the same or different?

Peace!!!!!!

I don't like to classify myself in those realms, just like I'm not trying to claim a particular religion...I believe what I believe and it doesn't necessarily fit into the categories I'm given.

When people ask me what I "am" politically, I tell them nothing. I'm concerned about what goes on in this country, but I'm not going to blindly support someone because they call themselves the same thing I do.

I think I'm with ya on this one. I consider myself pretty much apolitical. The whole scene is just so disgusting.

On the other hand, it's easy to say that and then not get off my ass and do anything about it. Because I'm too lazy and feel like spending my time improving myself and the world in other ways.

This system doesn't give us much of a choice, do they?
Think about it, we only have a limited (selected) number of people to vote for.
Just like, when we go to the mall, we only have the option of buying what is available.
We are presented with things and people, and that limits our choices.
We are aren't given much options.

Not only that, but if you don't register as a member of a political party you don't get to vote in the primaries -- only the national election.

And it's in the primaries that your vote counts the most, because they are counted state by state and party by party -- you can have the most influence over who is presented to you in the national election by choosing a party and registering for it in time for the primary in your state.

Of course, in the national election, you are not limited by party as to who you can vote for, that's only the primaries. (And if there are local issues on the ballot in the primary, you can still vote for those, too)

What we need to do is concentrate our power in one or the other of the established parties and present a candidate that they can't ignore because our coalition is backing that person.

It don't matter who you vote for, they all have the same agenda, and that is, to keep the rich people rich and the poor people poor. Oppresion of the lower classes for the gain of the upper class

Okay, I agree that the pool of candidates sucks. But what about the other issues-- let your voice be heard -- there are always things on the ballot that directly affect you and your community. What about those bond issues? You think, who cares about some bonds? Sometimes bonds are used to raise money to improve or build schools, sometimes for prisons, sometimes to build a new bridge or freeway. Ask yourself whether YOU want your city or state to use tax money that way (because all most bonds do is borrow against future tax payments by YOUR community). If not, vote no.

You would be surprised how much impact one vote can have on local issues.

You know what they say -- think globally, act locally.

23698, So, do any of you vote, still?
Posted by nushooz, Mon Jul-10-00 08:58 AM
And if so, what party do you normally align with?
Ever hear of "lessor evils"?

And if you're really fed up - as most people are- have you really considered forming you own parties? The African American vote sways many a campainge (sp) I know it may be extremely far fetched but if alot of us could have something that even resembles cohesiveness we could do our own thing and people in power would court us. WE have the POWER - (Damn that "black fist" emotion icon would go good here)

23699, You haaave to vote this election?
Posted by cpoindex, Mon Jul-10-00 09:29 AM
Forget Bore or Gush, what is really at stake this next election is the Supreme Court. With as many as three justices stepping down, the court is up for a major philosophical upheavel. If anymore conservatives get on the court, goodbye Abortion Rights, Affirmative Action among other things. So whether you can't tell the difference between Gore and Bush, you besta believe who the nominate for the highest court will be very different. do you research and make a choice.

Because the Supremes will be around longer (try decades -- this is not a four year stint) and have far greater impact on each person's life than any one president will.

then which party do your views normally align with?

Man, I just read a debate over on general. And like most others, I beleive that the end philosopy is that we can't be right for everybody ALL the time.
So, if you've found a party that identifies with most/some/more than the other party, why not go for it?
