22283, Lieberman threat to Black empowerment??????
Posted by nappiness, Wed Aug-16-00 05:26 AM
This response IS NOT MY OWN!!! I got it from the BRC listserv. I thought it was interesting and would make for an interesting discussion....

I ask this, because I can't believe the apathy surrounding the very
real threat to Black empowerment there is, with the Lieberman vice
presidential nomination.

This was obviously not a choice which Al Gore jr. made freely.

I took particular umbrage earlier this evening when Mr. Tapper of
either Slate or Salon, referred to Jesse Jackson as Jesse 'Hymietown'
Jackson, and stated vituperatively that Blacks are the largest group
of anti-Semitics in America.

There has to be more concern on the part of Black Americans to lend
their traditional support to the Democratic ticket this November
7/2000. This is not the party of 40 years ago, it's the party of the
Jewish interests.

Lieberman is against Affirmative Action, and supported school
vouchers, if only because this would benefit orthodox Jewish schools
more than anything else.

The apathy on the part of Black Americans is astounding. The true
deciding vote this political season is the Black vote, and in kind,
for the deep animus which Jews bear Blacks, look at the media
vilification, Blacks should en masse do one of two things, vote
Republican, or abstain. The latter would be ineffective, because it
could still mean a Democratic victory.

Send these power mad, racists, the only power you've got, the vote.
Money can buy a vice presidential nomination, thanks of course to
having raped Africa of gold and diamonds, but the vote can send bold
cupidity packing.

It'll be a more hellish future for Black Americans if this velvet
glove more thorough coup d'etat, were sanctioned in november by the
Black vote.

a really good example of how misinformation can be spread via the internet. The writer of this was terribly misinformed, as Lieberman has stated explicitly that he favors affirmative action, and he did so at a meeting with the National Black Caucus leaders.

Lots of info on www.vote.com

Uninformed opinion = gossip. The trouble comes when people can't distinguish between their opinions and facts. (That's my opinion)

one one of the first posts on this board i menationed that the decision of who to vote for in the 2000 presidential election was going to be a hard one.

since then it's become even more difficult. for all intensive purposes the candidates (and their running mates) chosen by the demo-publicans are horrible beyond imagination (okay maybe i could think of worse, but they still suck).

not looking at anyones religion (although this should play a part, especially when the politicians in question use their spirituality as a battleflag), but strictly their voting records, speeches, and other political factors (like who finances them) i will say this one mo gin....

we're in trouble if these guys win (which one of them will).

i sincerely hope before anyone submits their ballot that they have really researched the candidates they've chosen.

i heard it said that this election will either turn us back or move us forward and i agree.

think before you vote (and yer a$$ better vote).

Maxine Waters refused to campaigne for Leiberman based upon his voting record and public statements regarding school vouchers and Affirmative Action....

Leiberman meets with the Political Black Caucus; they (she and Leiberman) come out cheek to cheek.
Hum......

I gotta wonder what kind of concession where made in that meeting. When will they be evident?
Leiberman did say that he thought we should look at Prop 209 according to USA Today. WTF? Why? Somebody explain to me why the ills of this proposition needed to be considered by anyone who values diversity and fairness......

I just dont know......

Even after you research your candidates and you come up with info like this, I beleive that it only substantiates the "lessor of the two evils" theory. And it puts conscious voting people in quite a quandry.

Man, if I had some hair, I'd be pulling it out.

and Maxine is somebody that I've admired. But I guess the bottom line is that everybody has got to concede something....and being a stellwart (sp) for the Democratic party means endorsing their candidates.....this is not the time for division....democrats need a united front....Maxine's gotta tow the line or have something that she cares about "thrown to swine" - I would guess.

How does this play into building your own leaders?

Doubt it. Hip-Hop has proven to be economically viable since then. Plus big business would never allow it. The same cats who had a hand in financing his campaign are the same cats who run The mega-corporations who run major record labels.

Your theory is contrary to history though, because the hip-hop acts attacked by politicians are always the most commercially viable (if memory serves, run dmc, at their height, were a main focus of tipper's assault, odd as it sounds). you're also assuming that corporations wouldn't see political attacks on their artists as *free publicity*. when snoop and tupac were distributed by time-warner, newsweek (owned by time-warner) ran a cover story on criticism of snoop and tupac, in a piece which could be seen as a thinly veiled ad for snoop's debut album (snoop made the cover). any attack on rap by gore-lieberman could be seen by corporations as more "anti-authority" credibility for their artists, sort of like how NWA flipped that FBI letter into a publicity bonanza.

Oh damn, this is really scary. I sure hope Nader makes the ballot. But, I'm afraid if I vote Nader that Bush will win by default. And truthfully,I would rather have Gore win. I don't know !!!! Damn, I'm not looking forward to going to the voting booth at all(Mommy, I'm scared, for real).

Particularly when you realize that Clinton would not have won in 1996 without Perot's help.

You can find the state-by-state breakdown in www.voter.com. I live in Cali, where Clinton got all the electoral votes with 48% of the popular vote. That's a close one.

To split the liberal vote or not to split the liberal vote? That is the question.

empowerment.....
The very essence of the word empowerment dictates that WE RUN THIS.....meaning if we are ever to be truly empowered...will it be doled out by Leiberman or anybody other government official? Empowerment would dictate us organizing our own political party, seriously influencing the independent or any other party - to the point of more than R&B/Gospel service (in addition to lip service) at their conventions, ceasing all OVER ANALYZING of THE PROBLEM and being about eradicating - actively - THE PROBLEM.

Sure Ronald Reagen caused some serious damage to this country but on the other side of the coin there were ALL those politically conscious hip-hoppers that evolved from it. Can we say -"adversity may build character and COHESION? Can we say WAKE UP!

Are YOU empowered by GORE/LEIBERMAN......or what????

So you would rather have African Americans be screwed by Bush, but have more politically conscious hip-hoppers, than have a candidate that probably won't make things worse like Gore? That doesn't make much sense.

When did Chuck D have the power to appoint people to the Supreme Court?

You're right it doesn't make sense. But that's not what I'm saying. WHAT I said was that adversity builds character. And during an adverse time -Reagan's reign, character built, politically conscious, hip-hoppers emerged.

>When did Chuck D have the power to appoint people to the Supreme Court?

When he elects an official that represents his veiws. That fundamental democracy.

And is that all you could find to say about the post? Are you not responsible for your OWN empowerement?
