as the player said, this is nothing new nor specific to any race/culture. the "bad guys" are always seen as "cooler" (don't get me started on the whole "I wanna ruffneck/baller/big pimpin" thing). the REAL deal is that those of us who don't like those individuals as an example need to stop fussing and provide a different choice. show that money/hoes/clothes doesn't necessarily
equal happiness. show that education, or whatever, can get you success that's gonna last and nobody is gonna put you in jail for it. point out the fallacy of the rented cars/jewels. BE a role model.

additionally, unless you're speaking from a position which will give your opinion credence, one runs the risk of being a "hater" if they're just sniping from the sidelines.
