the idea behind the saying is that if you try to satisfy everone you will at some point be faced with compromise which may not do enough to really satisfy anyone.

i believe the phrase is appropriate within the context of this discussion because everytime a "Black show" comes out, SOMEBODY has someting to say in regards to why they don't like it.
