My emphasis was on FARMING. Where do you live? In most houses in the South (I lived in Dallas and Atlanta) the yards are large enough to grow food. It doesn't take that much land to grow many different types of food. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING THIS. I recently met some individuals here in DC (MAryland) who are doing the same. The martial arts school (temple) that I attend grows crops that the students must take apart in cultivating. Therefore IT DOESN'T REQUIRE MUCH MONEY. Only time and effort. I don't know about further up North where people live like DAMN RATS. (Just joking) :-)
