I hear you on the standardized test thing.
I've never heard a convincing argument for standardized tests... and what really gets me is this:
Academia is against them, all the way. I mean, how many papers have been written blasting standardized tests? How many universities have come together to do studies about the downsides?
Yet politicians don't listen. And they're becoming more and more mandatory via relationships between government and school districts... such as right now in VA.
It's sickening really... and a lot of teachers are retiring because of this problem. When politicians are left with no teachers, then they'll switch and blame it on something else...
Sometimes, I wonder if people think. :)
